Author: DianeCulhane46 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/8458.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: MacLysaght show two other variations, Priall and Pryell. The Griffith's index shows only Pryal, 3 entries in Toomore parish. the 1901 census shows Pryle in Toomore and Pryal in Kilgarvan and Ballycastle. Unfortunately, none of these parishes have baptisms going back to the time of Patrick's birth, though Toomore has marriages to 1833 and Kilgarvan to 1844, so if Patrick and Ann married in Mayo, you might find them. The records seem to start around 1850 and before that there are no entries. The name Priel is not a common Irish name and so with it and Loftus showing up in the same parish it would indicate they were kin to the folks you have. Foxford in Mayo is a good ways from Killala and there is a patish in that area called Kilcommon. It is a small parish but there is also a large parish in the west of Ireland by the same name. I have seen some confusion between Kilcummin and Kilcommon Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: Tides91 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/116.927.1096.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Donald, thanks for the additional insight. What records to you refer to? I'm encouraged again, as the surname Prial seems impenetrably obscure in its origin. I will review my records, but believe from prior research that there was more than one Peter Prial and that they may have been contemporaries. My records indicate that Peter Prial, my great great grandfather: - was born 27 June, 1827 in Kilcummin Parish, County Mayo - arrived in NYC from Liverpool on the "Senator" 23 Jan 1849 - married Mary Coughlan 15 May 1854 in NYC (Church Of The Nativity) Family folklore mentions a house right on the Mayo/Sligo/Roscommon border and the town Foxfords crops up as well. Perhaps a new thread on the mysterious surname is in order? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Glad you found the Dansville info helpful. I have always wondered what happened to Andrew's family after he died and was buried in Adelaide Twp., Middlesex Co., Ontario, 9 June 1863. I wondered if they went back to Dansville because an ancestor of mine went to Dansville to pick up a Samuel and Rebecca Swartz's daughter, Sadie, and I wondered if Rebecca's maiden name was McNeice as my McNeice ancestor's wife said they were cousins in some way. I also wondered if Andrew's wife re-married and what happened to the other daughter, Sarah Jane McNeice. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
