Farmer/servant hailed from Swinford yet I cannot find anything about him. He died before 1911. By my mothers birth registration its down that John's wife was a Bridet (it) nee Carawy?Has anyone heard of this surname in Ireland. They had children, Patrick, possibly Thomas, Michael, John and daughter. John had brother Daniel or Donald (guessing) Their son, my grandfather, Patrick Dacey, b Swinford 1863, famer? took horses from Ireland to S. America. Patrick married in 1911, England, died in England 1926 not long after coming home from the Argentine with his family he had out there.I have been able to find Patrick from 1911 to his death, but again, nothing in Ireland. Any help would be appreciated to climb the brick wall.Thank You. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. They may have married in some out-of-the-way place to avoid confronting either family. Rootsireland.ie has mostly Catholic records but some Protestant, and putting more on line all the time. I keep a list of "brick walls" that I check every 6 months or so on rootsireland.ie and familysearch.org in the hopes the records I need got posted. Good luck! When I say rural it was outside of the city but on a train line and the school would have been close enough to cork train station... We're trying to see if we can see the records in both the school she was supposed to have went to in the city and the local school too to see if we can find a year for both of them and possibly other names in the city school.. I've posted this story on so many different websites but I'll try sticking it on a Moran board too... We don't actually think we'll get too far because we've limted information, but we did wonder if there was the possiblity that one of her parents paid for her to be educated, I don't really know much about the school she was supposed to have attended either.. Civil Registration for Protestants in Ireland for marriage started in 1845 & Catholic in 1864. Have you checked the records in England within the 2-3 yrs. previous to the birth of their first child?? I have found records for my husband's ancestors in England after they left County Tyrone. We had been searching in Ireland by mistake. The fact that your grandmother lived in a rural area but attended city schools makes you wonder if one of her parents contributed to her education, perhaps anonymously. Another very long shot, but you might try posting to the Moran board or list in the hopes that a descendant of one of Elizabeth's siblings might recognize the story. Author: didolouise Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/8460.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My Grandmother understood that the woman who raised her wasn't her mother and wasn't given much information other than she was orphaned, but as time has gone especially since my GM died 13 years ago more stories are coming out, one story is that her mother was married, met a man and had an affair with him and my GM was a result of it, her mother then apparently moved to cork when pregnant, met this woman who brought my GM up, and appeared one day and gave this woman my GM, and no more of a story afterwards, it was said this woman who was my GM mother, elizabeth moran was from Kildare... But there are a lot of little things that we're trying to put together to see if we figure out how my GM came to be in Cork, another little oddity is where she grew up was isolated enough, but she apparently went to a school in Cork City which would be about 10 15 miles from where she grew up, but my mother has seen my GM's name on an old school register with "Orphan" after her name.... She was born in 1926 so no census records for her, and we can't find a Civil birth record for her as of yet anyway.. The distance between where her parents were from and where she grew up is what throws us out in all of this, if it all happened in the same place it would be easier to just accept she was given up for one reason or another, but the distance makes us think twice.. Author: DianeCulhane46 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/8460.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: It's early here so I'm not thinking quickly, but to be sure I understand, did your grandmother know she was adopted and her parents not married? Is it possible they were married but couldn't afford to raise her? Do you also have the civil birth record? I don't know when your grandmother was born, but the 1911 census shows a William and Elizbeth Finn in Howth with son William, age 2, married 1906-07. You might get their marriage record or the birth record for William Jr. to learn Elizbeth's maiden name. It's a long shot, but the family might have later fallen on hard times (this William a laborer in 1911) and been unable to raise your grandmother. A few single William Finns in Dublin in 1911, and lots of single Elizabeth Morans, unfortunately. Diane Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Meant to say that I'm in Cork and my GM was brought up in cork, so it's probably a very long shot that these are her parents but better to rule them out first..
