Not sure if you are new to genealogy or not, but may I suggest for safety sake, that you do not post the names and birthplaces of those who are living? Its amazing what can be found out about people on the internet by unscrupulous people and this is no different than other sites. Just for your info...good luck in your research April ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, January 14, 2012 3:09 PM Subject: Re: [IRL-MAYO] Thomas Patrick O'Connor and Winefred Pendergast,Mayo County > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: cheneylk > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/1061.2.1/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Hi- I am planning a trip to Ireland with my Dad and was investigating my > roots and found this. His youngest son and his second youngest were sent to Canada as British Home children. The second youngest is my GGfather. I figured the Neal name was quite unusual as well as I didn't find any other Neal Fallons in that area. The rest of the mystery is what happened with his family I guess. In 1911 he marked him and Winifred had been married 20 years yet there's no marriage record anywhere. He would have been 32 by 1891 so it's suspected he may have been previously married as well. I digress though. Thank you for your opinion about the Neal name, it helps me with a bit more strength on my search. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Achill baptism records are not available for 1859, taking all things into account the Fallon family in Dooniver are probably Patrick's family, Neal was quite an unusual name, it is probably more than a coincidence that Patrick named his first born son after his father. Checking the newspaper archives, the Fallon family were still living in Dooniver 1980's Brendan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Note that Tuam is in Galway. If you don't already have Martin and Bridget's marriage registration, you can get a photocopy from the GRO for 4 euros--Tuam Jan.-Mar. 1942, vol. 4, p. 248. That will give you Martin's age, and thus his birth year, which should help you find his entry in the death index on familysearch.org. Diane

That should show his father's name and occupation which could help narrow down the correct details for his family in Ireland. Griffith's was carried out between 1847 and 1864 - exact date depends on the area involved. Not everyone appears on the valuation - it depends on the circumstance. e.g. certain occupations were not included, related families shared houses and only the head would be listed, individual families in tenement type buildings were not listed etc Shane Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: emjaykain Surnames: Fallon Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/8485/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I'm researching a family in England that the father was originally from Ireland. My Great Grandpa's father Patrick Fallon was born in Mayo County. When he got married in England he changed his name to McFallon. There's no concrete information about his family in Ireland, but I think I found a connection in the 1901 Ireland Census. (By 1901 Patrick was already residing in England with his wife and children) Patrick's first born son is named Neal, and his first born is named Mary. These names do not show up on his wife's side of the family. In the 1901 Ireland Census, there is a Neal and Mary Fallon who are at the proper age to be his parents. Those are the only Fallon's in Mayo county that have naming patterns that correspond to Patrick's Family. The question I have is this: I'm not finding a Neal Fallon in the Griffith's Valuation. I know it may have been done in the early 50's, but according to the 1901 Census he was born in 1836. Why would that be? Also, is there any way anyone can come up with for me to trace this more? Patrick was born in 1859 so I'm kinda stuck. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Did you know that after the Griffiths Valuation. All the properties and land were revisited every year to check if anything had changed. The checkers took the original lists in book form with them and changes were marked on them. These are kept in Dublin and can be viewed by the public. This means that ancestors can be tracked using them. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
