    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: charleswalsh18 Surnames: Moran Walsh Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/8501/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Seeking descendents of or any ideas as how to locate further information regarding the Moran Family; specifically Thomas Moran and his wife Honora (Walsh). I am primarily interested in information concerning Honora Walsh Moran. In the 1901 census they are listed as residing in Mayo, Castlebar, Breaghy, Cloonlynchaghaun. Thomas is listed as being 50 yo and Honora as 46 yo. There are 6 children. By 1911 Honora is listed as a widow and living with three of her children. At that time the record shows that 7 of her 7 children are still alive. I believe Honora may be my G-Great Aunt, the sister of my Great Grandfather Redmond Walsh. Both children of Redmond Walsh and Bridgett Brennan. The younger Thomas Moran was born 12 July 1883 in Castlebar, Ireland and came to buffalo, NY in 1907. I have posted the records I have at: http://walshfamilysources.blog.com/moran-specific-information/ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. FYI - Henigan's Heritage Centre is located in Rubble (I visited there last April) and there is a chance that someone there may know your family name.... the Hennigans have occupied that area for generations. They may be able to put you in touch with the current Kennedys in that area - they were able to suggest some local people to talk to regarding my relatives who lived in Killasser a few generations ago. They have their own web site and are on FaceBook, etc. I don't know if it is okay to give the web address - there is no fee online or anything like that, but if you visit, you make a donation in whatever amount you choose if you take the tour that they provide. If your family is/was Roman Catholic, the Killasser church may have some records-depends on the time period. You can email me directly if you would like to find out more about the kinds of records they have, etc. <[email protected]>, as we also stopped there on our visit. I assume they were born in Ireland then went to Newcastle on Tyne. Mayo belongs to a not for profit History Foundation with birth, marriage, some death and other records. This website requires a fee which is fairly normal for Ireland and one of the few ways to get Parish information before 1864 without a trip to Ireland or hiring a genealogist. There are 38 births listed starting in 1852, none before that so probably some records are not available for various reasons. These would be parish records. Civil registration starts 1864 or a bit early if Church of Ireland about 1854. Civil Registrations: www.familysearch.org There are 11 marriages, 9 deaths, 26 census records. Griffith Valuations for Ireland took place 1846-74 depending on the county. This is used as a census substitute. These are available free: www.askaboutireland.ie property, landlord, date info. Only 2 Bradshaw's remain in Mayo: Richard Bradshaw Parish of Kilgeever, Townland Lecarrow Thomas Bradshaw, Parish of Kilcommon, Townland Doona The online current telephone directory shows 0 Bradshaw's in Mayo. Lawn is primarily a Donegal name and Grey is in several counties, especially in Ulster, but rarely Mayo. You could try searching on rootsireland.ie. It's a good idea to try to find out a more detailed location for your family in Co. Mayo - ideally the townland, town or parish, so you can check what records are available. Spelling of surnames varied quite a bit - O'Boyle could appear with or without the O' prefix, and you may find Barrot listed as Barrett. 1. [IRL-MAYO] Ballina Mayo vs Ballina Sligo/Mayo?
    2. Hi all, Somedays, I get a headache from looking at maps. I just noticed that there is a small townland named Ballina, near Ballycastle in Mayo. Of course, there is the larger Ballina town, on the border between Sligo and Mayo. I would assume that deaths from the late 1800s that were in the Ballina registration district would be for the Ballina town, but not sure. Would that be a correct assumption? John
