    3. In answer to your question, Kesa, I would suggest that the best place to begin is Griffith's Primary Valuation (GPV) of County Longford (1854). Even if your ancestor left Ireland before that date, she very well may have had family members would remained behind - you do not say how old she was when she left. Since this surname (and its variants) are so common in Longford, I would further suggest that you buy a book by David Leahy called COUNTY LONGFORD SURVIVORS of the GREAT FAMINE, which is a comprehensive index to GPV. Keep in mind this only gives heads of households and not all who live in that family group. I have the book and it has been a big help to me in my family research; incidentally the name REILLY and its variants take up 2 full pages and the better part of a third, so you can see why I recommend getting the book.
