Previously known as OCahans of Limavaddy. Had a lot to do with the ONeill prior to 1603. Worse came to worse, however. Are the Kanes known as OCahans or OCathains or otherwise. Thank you. Jane
Surnames mentioned in this message: Tully, Flaherty, McKeon, Maher, Kiernan, Heslin, Wilson, Martin, Fox, Devany, Rogers, Dorris, Lynch, Waide, Rogers, Dolan. The Heslin family described below is apparently related or connected somehow to Dennis Tully and/or his brother Terence Tully or to a wife of one of them. Does anyone know what the connection might be? Terence Tully (1835-1921) was born in Killoe Parish, near Ballinamuck, Co Longford, Ireland. He was married to Mary Flaherty (1833-1918) on St. Valentine's Day, 1859, in Drumlish Parish Church, Co Longford, by Rev. Patrick McKeon. Mary was the daughter of Patrick and Mary (Dolan) Flaherty. Witnesses to the marriage were James Maher and Mary Kiernan. Terence and Mary arrived in New York City on March 2, 1861, aboard the "Excelsior" with their first child, Anna. In a family album belonging to their son Joe Tully were pictures of three young women, photographed at Feinberg Studios, 16 West 14th St., NYC. On the backs of the pictures were the words: "To Joe: Best Wishes. Your Cousin, Mary L. Heslin. Sept. 11th, '98" "With Love, Your Cousin, Doretta Heslin, Sept. 11th, 1898" "With Love to Cousin Joe. Flora A. Heslin. Sept. 11, '98" Presumably "Cousin Joe" is Joe Tully. The date of Sept. 11, 1898, was one day prior to the wedding day of Joe's cousin, Frances Tully, and Arthur A. Wilson in Brooklyn. Frances was the daughter of Denis Tully (1838-1909) and Elizabeth "Bessie" (Martin) Tully, who were married in New York City in 1867. Bessie was born Feb 1846 Matry or Kells, Co Meath. Arthur Wilson was English. Census records show: MICHAEL HESLIN, b Sep 1847 Ireland wife Mary, b Mar 1845 Ireland dtr Mary L. Feb 1870 New Hampshire son George A. Jan 1873 New Hampshire dtr Doretta Feb 1878 New Hampshire dtr Flora A. Mar 1885 in Rhode Island The 1870 and 1880 censuses show the family in Claremont, Sullivan Co NH. At the time of the 1900 census Michael, his wife and daughters were living on Troy Avenue near Malbone St. in Brooklyn NY. George was also in Brooklyn in 1900 with his wife, Elizabeth, and son Arthur A. Heslin, born Oct 1899 in NY. (Note that Fanny Tully's husband was named Arthur A. Wilson.) George's address in 1900 was listed as 1191 "Segraw". Probably this should be DeGraw St. In 1906 Fanny Wilson was living at 1231 DeGraw St. According to a pedigree chart drawn up apparently around 1900, 1 Terence Tully's parents were: 2 Patrick J. Tully (1801-23Feb1883) and 3 Ann (Fox) Tully (1814-20Dec1847). Grandparents: 4 Terence Tully and 5 Mary (Dorris) Tully (1774-4Mar1858) 6 Charles Fox and 7 --- (Devany) Fox Great-grandparents: 8 Patrick Tully and 9 Sarah (Lynch) Tully 10 Daniel Dorris and 11 ---- (Waide) Dorris 12 Michael Fox and 13 ? 14 ---- Devany and 15 ---- (Rogers) Devany Great-great-grandfather: 16 Morris or Myles Tully Ann Fox's brother Patrick Fox (b ca 1808 Ireland) lived at 49 South Margin St., Boston MA. His wife's name and the names of their children, if they had any, are not known. Besides Denis of NYC, Terence J. Tully had siblings Michael P. "Mike" Tully (1836-1915) of Newton NJ and Anna Tully, who married John Kiernan and remained at Ballinamuck. Mike left no children. Anna and John Kiernan had one child, a daughter, Bridget "B" Kiernan (b 1877 Kiltecreevn or Drumlish - d 27 Sep 1958 Longford), who married at Ballinamuck 9 Jun 1902 Hugh Donnelly. Hugh and B had no children. I would appreciate help in locating "Kiltecreevn", which is quite likely misspelled. Andy Anderson
