Hi -- I am making a new call for volunteers to transcribe census images. I don't like to presume on our helpers, so if you want to help out, please let me know even if you were already a transcriber. Please email me OFF LIST by using my email addy: [email protected] Hitting reply will go to the list. The new film I am waiting for is #0846687 Longford Urban No. Townlands: Deanscurragh, Glack (urban part), Townparks (urban part). Longford City: Armstrong's Yard. Longford City: Ballymahon Street Blue Yard Bog Lane Burke's Yard Canal Harbour Chapel Lane Dublin Street Dwyre's Yard Earl Street Great Water Street Harbour Row Killashee Street King's Yard Little Water Street Mail Coach Yard Main Street Market Square McDonnell's Yard Needham's Yard New Street Richmond Street Sandy Row Stafford's Yard St. Joseph's Road St. Mel's Road St. Michael's Road Ward's Terrace If you want to work on a particular Street let me know. You will get the images of the place you transcribe. If you have not transcribed before here's how it works: I copy the images, you transcribe from the images into a spreadsheet program like Excel or the Works version. You email me the finished spreadsheet and I put it online. I will help with a 2nd opinion on any questionable name. *** I like to get the finished project back in a week. More than that and I have found it bogs things down. But the process of entering data is really pretty fast on a spreadsheet. We use abbreviations to speed this up.*** The film should be here in a couple of weeks. Right now we are finishing up a handful of places that were missed when we did the current roll of film. I paraphrase this from the late Pete McCarthy's book, "McCarthy's Bar". During the Troubles the British hear a rumour that Gerry Adams and Ian Paisley are holding secret talks in a hotel in Donegal. Seeing the opportunity to end their headaches they insert an SAS sniper across the road. The sniper's waiting is eventually over when he see's Adams and Paisley walking out but in between them is the singer Daniel O'Donnell. This gave the SAS sniper a bit of a problem as he had only been issued with two silver tipped bullets - so he shot Daniel O'Donnell twice. be lucky Sean
