    3. You are right, Pete! As you see, I am no further forward but yours is still a precious clue. Yesterday I did a long session at the computer on Ollard in general. Precious few seem to have drawn attention to themselves and somehow the computer seems to put names like P Ollard and C Ollard when the name is actually Pollard or Collard, which does not help much. Just in case there is anyone out there also looking, I found a fleeting mention of a ROBERT PEPYS OLLARD but was unable to pin it down. On May 7, 1857 a Mr. Frederick W. Ollard, a passenger to Newfoundland, died after three days of intense seasickness - that was reported in the Irish American newspaper. I had seen this before, and did a bit of research in Newfoundland just in case, but nothing came of it. Somebody in Brandon, Manitoba came from Tyrone Co., Ireland in 1846 with his father and brothers, and on February 7, 1893 he married MARY ADELAIDE C OLLARD - or was this also Collard? - but I didn't find his name. A HENRY J. OLLARD was a Staff Paymaster, ship Garnet, and I found him on a list of Royal Navy Ships in Service 1894 which was transcribed in New Zealand. I suspect that he would be an Essex Ollard, and therefore not one of our line, but one never knows until one finds out for sure... Then - I found a reference to OLLARD WESTCOMBE and they are a firm in Cork right now, according to the Home Page. Well, well, well! We'll certainly try to go into that. Have to work out the difference in shop-opening time between South Africa and Ireland. Ours open at 8.30 am usually. Gets lighter much earlier. There is an ELIZABETH OLLARD, or was, working in the Department of Education in Northern Ireland and I've sent an e-mail to the Department... S L OLLARD wrote a paper on the Oxford Movement in 1939 but so far I haven't found him anywhere else. Lollard is a name, also! Of course, many of these are uncontactable anyway, but there seems to be a glimmer of hope. Watch this space. Thank you for all the help, Listers. I've heard from some of you off list, and it has been very encouraging. Go well!
