I was doing some wild goose chasing in Washington County Naturalizations ca. 1830. I didn't find anything for myself, but looked at the counties the Irish were giving. Serveral named Longford. The FHL# is 1031399 The film was very dark so I will do my best with it. John Geraty reports to the Clerk of the county of Washington that he is thirty years of age by profession a Joiner (?) was born in that part of Great Britain called Ireland in the County of Longford that he Embarked from ___ on the 3rd of May 1832 & arrived in Quebec on the 17th of June following and came directly to Sandy Hill in Washington County State of New York, & has resided there & is ____________ Is married & his wifes name is Mary has two children Thomas 2 years & 8 months old James 2 months on the 12th of Dec ___ that he Came to the United States with the intention of becoming a citizen thereof & residing therein Dated Decr 7th 1836 ________________ (He swears loyalty etc in bottom paragraph.) Chris: I found the following e-mail interesting because my Godfather's mother's maiden name was Gerity (on his marriage certificate) and I haven't found anything like that in my research. I'm trying to find out how my Godfather is related to my family. I had always called him "Uncle Jimmy" and was told he was my father's cousin - but I can NOT find where he comes in. On two of the censuses, Jimmy noted his father was born in Canada (French Canadian) and his mother born in Ireland, which also perked up my interest on your e-mail. Ah, well, some day it will all be clear.
