I am putting this request on the List on behalf of someone else who does not have a computer As a 10yr-old he saw a certificate for his grandfather, . KELLY, born at Bally St Michael, (c 1850-60), a placename which always remained in his memory. However, now that his children want him to trace his family roots he cannot locate this place. (The certificate was destroyed along with other family papers when his father died.) He thinks it was a Townland possibly in Longford Can anyone help? Cynthia (NZ)
My two cents : Looking at www.seanruad.com , (my favorite place for locating townlands,) there is no Bally St Michael but there are Ballymichael townlands in Cork WR, Donegal and Wexford counties. (I just asked for any townland in Ireland with Michael anywhere in its name.) You might perhaps want to attribute a little preference for the one in Wexford because Longford and Wexford are both in the province of Leinster. Just a thought and might be worth a look.
