I received this obit from Ron Davies's daughter in law. I wanted to share it with the list. Ron was a long time list member researching PLANT in Longford. He used to write me to compliment our census efforts or ask a question. He was always very pleasant when he wrote. I don't know how many of you remember him but for those who do I thought you would want to know of his passing. I think his last post was in January 2006. I will post it here with his obituary following: ----------------------------------------------- Hello All While I've all but ceased family research because of health and age, I'm ever interested in the foregoing families and others who may be aligned. PLANT and AUSTIN are my primary interest. I'm interested in all associated families, eg via marriage. Elizabeth AUSTIN was the daughter of Abraham AUSTIN of Longford and his wife Catherine [T] ____?____ and wife of Thomas PLANT. These other families include but not limited to: FARRELL, McLAUGHLIN or McLACHLIN, FLOWER, LYONS. I believe that Robert Plant may have had three sons and a daughter: Thomas, William, Robert and Susan. I'm reasonably comfortable re the lads but not Susan. His wife is believed to have been a Mary Farrell. I have many other Plant names in the wings, eg not connected, and have interest in a Robert Plant who emigrated to Canada in the mid-1850s. I'm wondering if he is a nephew of my Thomas as discussed above. This family settled in Eastern Ontario: in Artemesia, Grey County East. He and his wife Mary Ellen, are shown as 24 years in 1881, both from Ireland. There's also a 53-year-old Robert Plant and wife Mary, 32, in Puslinch, Wellington County, in the same 1881 census. This Robert also is Irish but his wife is show as English. They have six children all ages 3 through 15, all Ontario born. Children all have names which permeate my Plant history. I will respond to all replies. I have had tremendous help from this list in the past for which I'm eternally grateful. Thank you and Happy 2006 to all. ---------------------------------------------------- Following is his obituary: DAVIES: At Surrey Memorial, on Saturday, April 19, 2008, Ronald Wellington Davies in his 79th year. Ron had been in failing health for many years, virtually house bound, with few visitors because of a severe intolerance of all chemical odours and fragrances. He also suffered severely from other debilitating diseases including COPD which ultimately claimed his life. Ron was born 27, February, 1930 in Toronto, ON but was raised in Stroud from the age of four. He attended school in Stroud and Barrie and later studied at the University of Toronto and at York University. His mother was the late Norene Myrtle Webb, [born Plant] and his father, the late Gordon Lewis Davies. He was raised by his mother's adoptive parents and sisters, Wellington and Clarissa Webb [nee Vanderburgh] and their daughters Florence and Charlotte. Ron leaves behind his wife and best friend of 30 years, Christina Maria Dominica Kooy, nee Fenger; four sons, Ronald, Wayne, Alan, and Ian, from his former marriage to Margaret Alberta McLellan with whom he shared 21 years; daughter-in-law Fran, stepson Christiaan Kooij and step-grandson Anton Kooij. Ron was active in St. James United Church, Stroud, ON, the church in which he was raised, in First United Church, St. Thomas and later Thistletown [now Rexdale] United Church. In later years until confined to his home, he was an active member of Surrey church of Christ, Surrey, BC. Ron's working life was in turn a reporter/photographer, feature writer, sports editor and a regional correspondent with The Barrie [Ontario] Examiner, St. Thomas [Ontario] Times-Journal and Toronto Globe and Mail. While in St. Thomas, he was official photographer of police forces serving St. Thomas and Elgin County. From 1956 through most of 1979, he was in the pharmaceutical business with Richardson-Merrell, primarily in purchasing and inventory management and latterly, was Manager of Capital Projects. In late 1979, he and Chris moved to British Columbia and from mid-1980 to mid 1989, he was Purchasing Manager for A&W Food Services. He took early retirement in 1989 because of failing health but for the ensuing five years, he managed to work from his home as a consultant to the food industry. He was an active sports participant in his younger days - hockey, baseball, tennis and badminton - and later, closely active in various management capacities most notably, baseball, hockey and junior football. Other interests included charter member of the committee co-ordinating the development of the Canadian Professional Purchasers certification; was a director with the Powell-Brown School for Autistic Children in North York; Jaycees in St. Thomas and later the Kiwanis Club of Surrey. He also was secretary and charter member of the St. Thomas Jayhawks Junior Football team, and was an official scorer in the Senior Intercounty semi-pro baseball league. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 26, 2008 in the Surrey church of Christ building, 15042 92nd Avenue, Surrey at 2:30 p.m.

I do remember Mr. Davies as I found his research names interesting that? is he had Plant and Flower in his genealogy.??? I used to look in the Longford books to see where the majority of those names were found. I extend prayers and condolences to his family.
