Rhoda, Thanks. I'll be interested in what you find out. Dear Nancy and David I managed to find the baptism certificate and it is in fact a copy of the original record. It was made in 1914 and I assume my Grandmother needed proof of her baptism in order to marry within the Catholic church? She married my Grandfather in Balerno, Midlothian, Scotland in February 1914. It says: "Mary Jane Feeney was baptised 9th June 1892. Parents Michael Feeney & Rose Reilly. Sponsors Michael Devine (?) and Mary Mathews. I certify the above is a correct copy of the Parochial Register kept at Abbeylara Catholic Church. Abbeylara Eugene M'Guire 10th January 1914 P.P " So, sorry Nancy, but it doesn't mention Father William Gray, Incidentally, isn't Gray a Scottish surname? I believe it is a Norman-Scottish name. Rhoda
Dear Rhoda, It is EXTREMELY unusual that the baptizing priest's name is not on the certificate. Would you want to ask for another certificate with the priest's name? And your great grandmother, Rose Reilly: could she have been from Cavan? If so we could be related.
