Hello everyone I've just joined this site and I'm researching HESLANs, spelt in various ways, from the area. Bernard Heslan was my gggrandfather. He must have been born 1830-31. In 1847 he enlisted in the Royal Irish Fusiliers at Maguiresbridge and his service record says he came from Dromard Parish. There was also a John Heslan enlisted at the same time and place who was a year older, also from Longford. I have detailed records of Bernard from 1847 onwards and I know from his marriage certificate that his father was Patrick Heslan, linen weaver. I would like to contact anyone researching Heslans in the area. I would especially like to find records of birth for Bernard, John and Patrick, what was the local RC church,and anything about Dromard, linen weavers and so on. Any help much appreciated.
