Hi Joyce, I went to Ireland in May, with my Dad. We landed at Shannon at 6:30 am and drove to Galway City. I think Dublin to Longford would be comparable in distance. I had no trouble getting off the plane, renting a car and driving (on the 'other' side of the road) right away. Also, the road that runs between Galway and Dublin (in Galway they called it the Dublin road, in Dublin perhaps it's the Galway road) is a very large, well-kept highway - easy to drive on, that's the road you take to Longford. Perhaps staying in Dublin one night might be fun, but driving to Longford is definitely reasonable. My Dad and I visited Longford, my ancestors are from Tennelick in south County Longford. I must tell you, it felt eerily familiar. I just loved it. I had never been there before, but now can't wait to go back. Have a blast - the Guiness is fabulous there - not like here in the US. Good luck. Hoping to see final restings spots of some of the McClaughry clan. Thanks to a tremendous amount of time and effort much has been documented by some of my long distance counsins. My primary tie is James McClaughry. Not much known other than he may have come alone to Long Island, N.Y. in the 1700s. He appears to have married a Catherine Ellsworth in N.Y. Any information out there??? Much more is known about James' cousins, uncles: Matthew McClaughry - born c 1665. Died March 12, 1773, Cleghill Parish, Clonbroney, Co. Longford. Wife Margaret. William McClaughry, born c 1632 in Scotland. Died 12 March 1773, also Cleghill Parish. Wife Katherine Reid. My maps are not very complete so can someone help me locate: Cleghill Parish, Clonbroney, Co. Longford Clongish Parish Churchyard Old Temple Buring Grounds, Longford A town called Leam where some family sailed from in Sept 1765. Also, we arive in Dublin around 2:30 pm. Is it reasonable to assume we can rent a car and get to Longford the same afternoon. Would we be better to say in Dublin or close proximity and then start out?? Any recommended spots in Dublin area or Longford? Any and all information will be greatly appreciated. I live in Omaha, Nebraska so if I can help anyone out from here lete me know. Thank you. Joyce
