My ancestor, James HUGHES, born in 1836 was RC. He claims his parents as: James HUGHES and Bridget/Brigid QUIGLEY. I haven't anything to go on to establish his birth as County Longford, but some guesses and a fit to a birth in 1836 of a James HUGHES to James and Bridget (no surname) HUGHES. James came to the U.S. about 1850 and settled in Lafayette County, Missouri, working the coal mines. I can't seem to connect him to any other Irish in the area that might be kin, so he might have come alone. Looking for anyone that might have a HUGHES/QUIGLEY connection in that time frame for this county.
