Well It has been awhile since I posted my names. I do so now hoping that some of the new people may have some information to help me. I am looking for Descendants of Matthew DORIS MATTHEW DORIS born Abt. 1800 in Newtown Forbes, Co. Longford, Ireland, and died March 31, 1892 in Coldwater, Branch Co. MI. He married ANN MC GUIRE also born in Co. Longford maybe in Granard. In The Surnames of Ireland it is shown as a variant of DOORISH or evn earlier DUBHROSA( meaning black wood) originating on the Fermanagh-Monaghan border then spreading to Co Tyrone and tho North Longford. Now I will be the first to say I don't know much of Irish History or Geography, I don't know if this has any significance or not. Mathew DORIS was a Catholic priest who left the priest hood to marry Annie McGuire. They came to the US before 1838. Now I hope that info doesn't put some one off answering. Someone said their is a book out annually by the Catholic church which might show information on Mathew in 1830, when he may have still been in the priesthood. I have no idea where to start or what to do. I am also in the SW corner of Kansas and research facilities here are few and not extensive. About 4-5 years ago a cousin traveled through co Longford. He talked with a man named John DORIS, who sorta thinks he might have heard of the priest who left to get married and went to US. I have no idea how to get in touch with this man.
