I was there to see if there was any evidence of the early Christian nunnery at the site, and photograph what I could find. I think the briers were planted by St. Patrick when he gave the veil to the two Emers, sisters of Guasacht, at this site - they were certainly dense enough. Only the tops of 6 to 8-foot high monuments were visible. When I returned to the U.S., I contacted an authority/friend on early Irish sites, and she said that - less than a year ago - she was able to make some inroads through the briers, but with difficulty and assistance from others.
