Nancy, See by your post that you are traveling to Ireland in May and will visit the church of the Sacred Heart. Where is it located???? My reason for asking -- My husband and I are going to Longford County in June. My third great grandparents James and Jane Claffey came from Longford County arriving in Port of New York in August 1817. They lived for a while in Huntingdon Co Pa before moving on and settling here in Washington County, Pa. They are both buried (with readable tombstones) here in Donegal Township, Washington County, Pa in old Donegal Catholic Cemetery. See web URL http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~camounts/donegalcem.htm This Catholic Community early on, built a St James Church which was forerunner of the present Sacred Heart in Claysville Pa. Wonder if there is a connection ??? Carol Ann Claffey Mounts > >Do you know what church your ancestors attended? My BURKE family was from >Carrickedmund also, civil parish of Taghshinny. They attended the Church >of the Sacred Heart. The records for that church begin in 1835 and are on >microfilm with the Mormons. I have the film on order at my local Family >History Center - I would be happy to check any of your names when the film >comes in. I also have the Griffith's Valuation index on CD that I would be >happy to check for you, although there is not much info to be had from the >index. >I am going to Ireland in May.
