Hi Alberto, Do you know what church your ancestors attended? My BURKE family was from Carrickedmund also, civil parish of Taghshinny. They attended the Church of the Sacred Heart. The records for that church begin in 1835 and are on microfilm with the Mormons. I have the film on order at my local Family History Center - I would be happy to check any of your names when the film comes in. I also have the Griffith's Valuation index on CD that I would be happy to check for you, although there is not much info to be had from the index. I am going to Ireland in May. I plan on visiting the Church of the Sacred Heart. My great great great grandparents were married there in 1838. Let me know if I can help. Longord . My anncestor was Nicholas Mac Cormack was born in Longford in 1814 son of Patrick Mc Cormack and Honor Dalton. He got married in Carrickedmond (South Longford) Barony of Shrule to Bridget Reynolds. Their two first son were baptized in this place. Then During the famine they settled in Buenos Aires Argentina. I have many other Cormacks from this place but I cant the exact link between these people. Any of this sounds familiar contact me Alberto Savaglia Cormack ==== IRL-LONGFORD Mailing List ==== (c)
Nancy: I dont know the name of the church, but in 1835 Carrickedmond was the place where the Catholic Church was, later there is other in Legan around 1850. I m tracing the Mac Cormacks and Mc Cormicks in the area. I went to this place in 1996. I saw the old Abbeyshrule cemetry where I found an old tomb of Mac Cormacks, I took a photo that is not readible. There was not time to check to much, and I didnot visit the new cemetry, that I think is working from 1840s. I tell you this because tombstones inscription is the source for pre 1835 research. I have the microfilm of Carrickedmond Parish Registers here in Argentina, I had copied all Mac Cormacks wedding, bapzism and deaths. I have some connection to the Burkes.3 nov. 1841 died Elizabeth Burk alias Mac Cormack de Cloonard ( from Cloonard ). Cloonard is a townland in this barony of Abbeyshrule or Shrule You see I only check for Cormacks and this information I m sending because the is a link to them. There was great if you can to check for me tombstones inscriptions in the new cemetry of Abbeyshrule when you ll go to Longford,. this is in front of the abbey and old cemetry. You see I m tracing the Mac Cormacks during years and when I got the parish registers I found out a lots of Mac Cormacks but the records doesnt give details of the person. For example in the death of Elizabeth that I m sending her age is missing. My ancestors Nicholas Cormack was born in 1814 many years before the rsgister start. But I found out in 1840 Nicholas Cormack marriage. I dont know why it only says (Nicholas Cormack de Doon) to Bridget Reynolds I also be gratefull if you check the towland of Killcurry in the area for Mac Cormacks, I think you can find out Mrs or widow Honor Mac Cormack ( may be a place called Doon, this palce is not a towland because the maps doesnt show it). She was my fourth grandmother (Honor Dalton Mac Cormack) I suggest you that check the Preservation of the memorials of the death. Thsi is a copy of old tombstones inscrptions of all Ireland. This books are in the National Library of Dublin. I dont know if the Mormons have it. May be under Tombstones inscrptions or Cametries. The listed persons that this books thave are not complete. They miss many inscriptions. Thanking you very much for your assitance and excuse my english, I speak spanish Be in touch Slainte Alberto Savaglia Cormack
