Hi Christina I think is a very godd idea. Some time ago I saw some letter that some relatives living in Killcurry , Carrickedmond Co. Longford sent to their family living here in Buenos Aires where they told them the newses ( as the called) about the family. That was very informatives because the gives details like date of birth and death of the members of the family. It 's a way to preserve the family history.
