    1. [LONGFORD] Flood & Sexton

    3. I am interested in tracing my Flood and Sexton ancestries of County Longford, Ireland. My great-great-grandparents James Flood (d. 23 May 1898) and Bridget Sexton (d. 27 Mar 1918) were from Derrycassan in the Parish of Columbkille (Lough Gowna). I do not know when they were married, but they had the following children (all born in Ireland): John; Hugh (b. 1861); Mary; Anne(b. 1865); Thomas (b. 1867); and Bernard (b.1873). I've only been able to find baptismal records for Hugh, Anne and Thomas and civil registration of births for Anne, Thomas and Bernard. I might add that Hugh Flood's godparents were a Bernard Sexton and a Mary Flood; that Anne Flood's godmother was a Judith Flood; and that Thomas Flood's godparents were a John Reilly and a Judith Coffey. The entire James Flood family eventually immigrated to the State of Colorado, U.S.A.. James Flood had a brother John who also came to Colorado. I know that John and James Flood also had a sister (name unknown) who married a Riley/Reilly because a nephew named Owen Riley resided in John Flood's household on the 1880 US Census of Colorado. Are these people familiar to anyone? Does anyone perhaps have Flood or Sexton relations or ancestries tied to the Parish of Columbkille (Lough Gowna), County Longford, Ireland? Or, does anyone have suggestions on how I might identify the parents of John Flood and/or Bridget Sexton? So far, Catholic parish records have not been any help. James and Bridget were probably born sometime in the 1820s or 1830s, decades before civil registration began in Ireland. Thank you for any help you can give me! John R. Rohde II
