Hi Ken Your ggrandfather, Bernard Heslin, was not the same as my gggrandfather. He served in the Crimean War, in South Africa and in India at the time of the Indian Mutiny. I have done a lot of detailed work on his military career. Eventually he settled in Birkenhead near Liverpool, England, and his daughter Mary Ann Heslan married John McGrath there in 1870 (on Christmas Day). But undoubtedly both our Bernards were related way back. Were you able to trace a parish for your ggrandfather and get records of baptism? That is what I am trying to do for my Bernard.
