Hello Christina, I have a few pictures of the gravestones of my Kennedy ancestors. The Kennedy family lived and farmed in the townland of Clonither, (about 3 km from Newtownforbes and at the border between Co Longford and Leitrim) in County Longford. The family 'official' and closest church was in Bornacoola, Co Leitrim and that church's cemetery, Cloonmorris, is in the same place. Please let me know if you would like these pictures. Hi Bev! Thanks for your reply re David Gorman, my great grandfather. My problem is trying to find his birth place as the documents I have all just say "Ireland". According to the records I have: 1. He came to Montreal, Quebec and settled there in 1873. He married Agnes Carmichael on January 09, 1879 in St Jean French Presbyerian Church, Montreal. It states he was a bachelor an engineer and age of maturity. They raised a family here: Agnes, Ann, Edith, Thomas, Jessie Ida, William, Elsie and David Arthur. He died in Montreal on December 26, 1919 and was buried from St. Matthew Presbyterian Church, Point St. Charles, Montreal at the age of 74 years. He was buried on December 28,1919 in Mount Royal Cemetery, Montreal According to the 1881 Census he was 32 years of age meaning he was born in 1849. On the 1901 Canada Census he was born in 1858 and on the 1911 Census he was born in 1851. I know the Census is not the most reliable place for the proper age etc. and there could be errors in copying the records. If you hve any of these names or require further information on the children of David and Agnes please advise me. Hi Donna, You could write a letter to the editor of a Longford newspaper, which I am sure he would publish. List everything you know and you might find some relatives. People will be anxious to help, the Irish are so friendly and helpful. I have been every year for the past 5/6 years, didn't go this year but will go next year, particularly to Muckenagh, Noughaval, mostly in Westmeath but partly in Longford. I hope to trace descendants of my gt.gt.grandfather Lawrence IGOE, died 1876 aged 50, his wife was Julia MacCorm*ck, alive at his death. Their son John, born 1850, left home for Dublin then London where he married a Dublin girl in 1872. Keep us posted on what you learn and good luck on your trip. Irene of Seattle former Londoner
Hi, We are now adding headstones to the IGP Archives. As some of you know, we have a section for headstones on the IGP Longford site. Well, this will be done in the Archives too. Our system will be different. The stones will be arranged by cemetery. If you would like to donate photos you have taken, you can send the photos to me. I will need a text file listing the stone info. Either arranged by last name or with a number to keep the photos in the same order. To see how this will look, you can take a look at some donated by Peter Langley for Waterford. http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlarchive/1headstones/waterford/markers.htm We would like to get Longford's page set up with photos. Jacquie Liddiard will be managing this part of the Archives project. Let me know if you can contribute off list. Christina chrisnina@gmail.com
