    3. Still searching for any 19C Longford MOYNAGHs, especially B, M and D, & parents or other family of: Francis MOYNAGH, labourer, then soldier (1st of Foot 1823-44). Age 18 when enlisted, so born circa 1805, said to be at 'Abeylaid, near Edgeworthstown', but nobody's heard of it! Deceased by 1880 (?? during the famine, as discharged from Army very disabled in 1844). Also birth of his son: Michael MOYNAGH born circa 1845 - no idea where. A 'musician' who later moved to England, married in Liverpool 1880. Any one heard of 'Abeylaid' - quite clearly written as above in his 1823-44 Army papers. Others have suggested Abbeylara, but would that be described as 'near Edgesworthtown'? I would also be most interested to learn of ANY Moynaghs, an uncommon name, from Co. Longford? Until I found Francis' army papers, our family had always been told we hailed from Cavan, but no trace of him there. -- _ ________________________________________ /_| _ _ _ /| /_ _/_ /' / || (_|(_)/ |/(/_/_ / The Internet Experts ________) ___________./ pmoynagh@orpheusinternet.co.uk

They were mostly from the Killoe area of County Longford. Time frame of 1850-present. Patrick and Mary Ann Duffy Igoe, married 1876 had ten children, Rose, married Michael Heslin in US, Anne, married John Greer in US, Katherine married David Hassett in US, Elizabeth, (Lizzie) married John Quinn in US. Mary Ann married John Hughes in Longford, Bridget (Delia), married James Jones in the US, Teresa married Charles Lynch in US, Ellen (Nellie) married James Durkin in US, Alice married John Mulleady in Longford, and son James Patrick Igoe, married Marry Skelly in Longford. The surnames I mentioned were from the men the woman married. That even though they married in New York the men were thought to be from Longford except for Hassett. 2. P. B. Francis
    3. Researching my wife's Irish roots. Surname LEONARD Siblings: Michael, b. 1860-1870 in Ireland; immigrated to NY, USA ca. 1893; d. unknown date, probably in NY; Mary, b. ca. 1863 in Longford, Ireland; married Patrick GREEN, probably in Ireland; d. 1893 in Lancashire, England; Catherine, b. 1865 in Longford, Ireland; married (1) Michael CARROLL in Lancashire, England; married (2) Philip STINSON in Lancashire, England; immigrated to Rensselaer County, NY, USA, in 1906; d. 1942 in Troy, Rensselaer County, NY, USA. There may have been other siblings; however, I only know about the three above. The New York State US death certificate for Catherine (Leonard) CARROLL STINSON showed her parents' names as Patrick LEONARD and Mary FAHEY. The informant was her step-daughter, Mary (Stinson) SICKLES. I have been unable to determine the parish or village in County Longford where this family originally lived. Both Mary and Catherine indicated on their Lancashire census entries that they were born in Longford, Ireland. 1. Re: [IRL-LONGFORD] ROLL CALL TIME: THOMAS FOX, CATHERINE NEWMAN
    2. celia ewald
    3. I know nothing, other than I was told my great-grandparents Catherine (Newman) and Thomas Fox were from County Longford. My grandmother, Honor Maria Fox, and all of her siblings were born in Brooklyn, NY between 1862 and 1881. However, the Fox's first daughter, Mary Fox, was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey in 1860. I found them in all of the census until their passing; Thomas 1898, and Catherine 1904.
