You might want to also try www.seanruad.com although in this case you would enter Killoe as the Civil Parish, unless you want to know only which ones were in the Catholic Parish. I'm not sure what difference there might be and I guess it depends on what info you're looking for. ----- Original Message ----- From: "mike" <michael.mertle@comcast.net> To: <irl-longford@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 17, 2008 8:13 PM Subject: Re: [IRL-LONGFORD] Catholic Parish of Killoe > http://www.ireland.com/ancestor/placenames/ > > > enter Killoe in this page and get a map > > -------Original Message------- > > From: king133@juno.com > Date: 03/17/08 14:29:07 > To: IRL-Longford@rootsweb.com > Subject: [IRL-LONGFORD] Catholic Parish of Killoe > > Can anyone tell me how to find the County Longford townlands that make up > the Catholic parish of Killoe? > Thanks for the help, > Charlie King > _____________________________________________________________ > Click here to save cash and find low rates on auto loans. > http://thirdpartyoffers.juno > com/TGL2111/fc/Ioyw6iif3WDe8sLorCYaRX0PvgIwb1gcvFSiyINHt5BN2hO3mMqmNe/ > > > > ********************************** > Longford Genealogy Website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~irllog/ > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > IRL-LONGFORD-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > -- > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG. > Version: 7.5.519 / Virus Database: 269.21.7/1332 - Release Date: 3/17/2008 > 10:48 AM > > . > ********************************** > Longford Genealogy Website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~irllog/ > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > IRL-LONGFORD-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
Killoe Civil Parish is considerably larger than the Catholic Parish, so using the former will give a number of parishes that are not applicable to your needs. I would suggest emailing the Longford Heritage center with your question to see whether they can give you an accurate townland list. Hi all I am new to the List. My interest is in the FEENEY, REILLY, DEVLIN AND GLANCY families. My Grandmother, Mary Jane FEENEY was born in Granard in 1892, and baptised in Abbeylara. She was the daughter of Michael FEENEY born 1868 and RoseAnn REILLY born c1869. Michael and RoseAnn emigrated to Lanarkshire, Scotland c1899 with their 6 children. Two further children were born in Scotland. Michael FEENEY's parents were Edward FEENEY and Bridget GLANCY probably born in Co Longford in the late 1830s or 1840s. . RoseAnn REILLY's parents were Miles REILLY and Mary DEVLIN again probably born in Co Longford in the late 1830s or 1840s.. Would be pleased to hear from anyone who thinks they could be connected to these families. Rhoda
The Irish Family History Foundation's Online Research Service has added the county of Westmeath. I thought some of you might want to check for possible Longford ancestors who crossed the county line. http://westmeath.brsgenealogy.com/index.php?&set=yes Here is a map of the counties online: http://kilkenny.brsgenealogy.com/generic.php?filename=main_index.tpl&selectedMenu=showmap It does cost to buy a look at a record, but you can search for free. Hello All I've joined this list in the hope that someone can help me. My mum has finally found an Army record informing us of the birth place of James McNAMARA my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather (I have a photo of him in uniform). He joined the 7th Dragoons aged 13 in 1809, which made his birth date c1796. He put his birth place as Co. of Longford. James McNAMARA was a Musician by trade within the 7th Dragoons, and at one stage was a Trumpet Sergeant. I searched the IGI and found that there is a record for a James McNAMARA christened at Templemichael, Longford 9/3/1797. His parents were Alexander McNAMARA and Isabella TINMAN Is any kind soul able to confirm this record for me? If anyone knows or can help me regarding this family it would be much appreciated. Kind Regards Gareth Thomas

Gareth, My gg grandfather, JOHN CREAMER, was also from Longford (Granard) and also joined the British Army -- all Irish division, about the same time. They fought at Waterloo. My gggrandfather got out about 1820 and went to Canada. I have the records at home and will send you references. Perhaps they were comrads in arms! I'm am still trying to find my GGGPs in Ireland. McDowell: Robert McDowell (b. 1812) m. Eliza Byrne/Bierne (b. @1816) Their three children are: Robert b. in Brooklyn in 1852 Eliza b. in Michigan in 1853 Ellen b. in Brooklyn in 1859 m. James Reilly (below) in Brooklyn on Jan 12, 1876 In 1880, the Eliza's (mother and daughter) are living in Mamakating, Sullivan County, NY with James and Ellen Reilly and their children. I can't find any information on the death of Robert McDowell, Sr or his wife and daughter who are both named Eliza. I can't find them in any census records prior to the listing in 1880. Robert McDowell lists his parents on his Emigrant Savings Bank Account: John McDowell and Ellen Cody Robert's brother Charles also comes to the US with his family and signs for the account: Charles b. 1816 in Clombroney m. Katharina Soden (b. @1820) John 1844 Elizabeth 1846 Janie 1853 Annie 1856 Robert 1858 Charles 1861 John and Elizabeth are enumerated on the 1880 census in Brooklyn, NY but crossed off. The may be living in Ireland or some other place in the US. On the 1880 census this family was living at 363 17th St, City of Brooklyn. All of Charles' children were born in Ireland. O'Reilly/Reilly/Riley: Born in Longford Robert Reilly m. Catherine Kelly Have baptismal records for three children: James (my GGF) baptized Jan 20, 1850 at Newtown Forbes Siblings John (b. 1852) and Mary Ann (b. 1854) baptized at St Mary's Edgeworthstown Other siblings were Kate (b. 1859?); Elizabeth (b. 1864-65?); Margaret b. 6 Mar 1871 Ballinalee; and Jane. All the siblings except Jane came to the US and were in Brooklyn, NY in the 1880 census. Jane remained in Ireland and at the time of her brother John's death in 1924 was living in Dublin. Kate married James Hart/e/en in 1882 in Chicago. My working theory is that Catherine Kelly may have died in childbirth or shortly after and the family came to the US (supposedly via Canada). Jane would have been too young to go with the family and remained in Ireland with other family members. Why would the Reilly children have been baptized in different locations? Where did Robert Reilly and Catherine Kelly marry? Where were other children baptized? My GM, Mary Elizabeth Reilly O'Neill, wrote to her cousin in Drumlish, Kate Shaw, until Kate's death about 1930. Any assistance in finding my roots in Ireland greatly appreciated! Thanks. Barbara **************Biggest Grammy Award surprises of all time on AOL Music.
