June, My Grandmother was a Brady and as I discovered,Brady was one of the most common names in Longford. If you are sure of the year of the marriage and of the townland in the county they were from and it matches the info you received then it could be possible they didn't have children for a long time. This was just after the famine years, it's possibe she miscarried once or twice or they could have been separated for long periods due to work locations etc. I t's not clear from your note if you had both names beforehand and the date or just one name and a time frame. All of that info will determine how accurate the info you received is. Good luck, Eileen __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Hello I have found a possible marriage for my Gggran and Gggranda on the Longford BMD site ie. A Peter Brady and Brigid Galligan married in the same year of 1847 (no other matches to be found. My query is that the earliest birth I have of their son is 1864 and my Ggranny Brady was born 1876. I have a hesitation in paying another 5 euros as I think this seems unlikely to be them, as they would have had to have waited approx 17 years before having children? Any thoughts welcome June

Thanks Barbara, I will try your suggestion - if it helps a little that will be great. Ann Marie.
Eliz,, I don't know if this information will help you pin point your Greer's but I thought it might be worth a try.?? There is a James Greer in the Tithe Applotment? 1823-1835, the townland was Leitrim, Civil Parish was Granard.?? Also, I looked for Greer's in the 1901 Census and find a? John? Greer? in Leitrim,? (Granard Rural D.E.D.) .?? In the earlier records the 1823-1835, James is the only one listed who spelling is Greer, there? are others who spell it Grier, but no? Johns.?? I'm hoping this information will help you get started.??? Do keep in mind that the spelling of last names? could be either way and still be your relative.??? I have found this many times with the Mulledy family? (spelling was not a big deal). Hi Ann Marie, Thanks so much. I appreciate any help I can get with the O'Reilly/Reilly/Riley's, McDowell's and Shaw's. When you look at the film do you put a piece of transparent yellow plastic or document cover over where the film is projected? They do this at the library near here and it really makes it easier on the eyes. It would certainly help with the records you're looking at for sure. Thanks again. I know they were from county longford but not the town or parish I have obtained films for the parishes and am doing a process of elimination. I assume you know that there are indexes for some parishes on the internet. The film that you are looking at is one that I had planned to review in the future. I am guessing for Frazer that they were not too far from longford parish because the name is of Scot origins. These great grandparents married in NYC not in Longford. They immigrated to America in different years. I agree that the films are a mess and difficult to read. I am considering photocopying the film entries and scanning them to my computer and enlarged them hoping this will enable me to read what is there. Thanks again. patricia
Ann Marie, I have been through some of these films and as you say the writing is almost totally illegible. Reviewing these films is exhausting, even when you have some idea of the years and people that you're looking for. I think that you are very generous for volunteering to help people. Barbara, There is and was a Catholic parish of Newtownforbes. However, Newtownforbes was the location of Castle Forbes, a principal seat of the Earl of Granard, so there was undoubtedly a Church of Ireland church there as well. Therefore, the fact of a baptism at that geographical location would not be proof of the religion of the parents.
