    3. Paul, At the time that I paid for my research the cost was 15 Irish Punts or $21.00. That was March 31, 1998. As far as I am concerned that was the best $21.00 I have spent on genealogy. I sent them the check along with the inquiry since I understood that was the only way they would do the search. I received information back from them by the end of April. The man their that took care of my research was a Martin Gray, Assistant Researcher. Let me know if I can help with anything and good luck in your research. Pat Connor Coogan

    3. Pat, I'm new to Irish genealogy; do you mind telling me how much the research at the Longford Roots at Longford Museum and Heritage Centre cost? Did you send payment first or wait for them to tell you the cost? I too have only gggrandparents names, so you've given me some encouragement. Unfortunately, my names are a bit more common than yours but, I'm still hoping the same process might work for me. Any suggestions you might have would be welcome, too. Paul Tierney Moncure, NC p.s. A trip to Ireland is a long way off for me, but I'm saving your suggestions. Thank you for posting them to the list. 1. Burke/Perry in Tennalick
    2. Nancy Pierce
    3. Hello, I am new to the list. I have recently received information from the Longford Heritage Centre about my great great grandfather, Edward BURKE. His obituary in the Brooklyn Eagle, 1895, stated that he was from Tennalick, County Longford. Apparently, he was born in May of 1841. His parents were Patrick BURKE and Margaret PERRY. Edward Burke married Mary LEVY, her parents were Mary CONNELLY and Thomas LEVY. I believe they may have been from Tennalick too. I wanted to know if anyone else is researching these names or this village? area? town? I am a little confused as to the divisions in Ireland. The four names of places I have associated with where these ancestors came from are Tennalick, Taghshinny, Abbeyshrule, Carrickedmond. I don't have a good map, so I can't really figure out where anything is - except Abbeyshrule. I am going to Ireland in May and would like to take a day trip to Longford. I understand that the church where Margaret Perry and Patrick Burke were married still stands. I would like to take my father (Edward Burke) there, I just need a little guidance. Any help would be very much appreciated. Nancy Burke Pierce

    3. Carol, To arrange getting some research on the Claffeys done ahead of time, you could write to Mr. Jimmy Lennon Longford Roots Longford Museum and Heritage Centre 1 Church Street Longford, Ireland For accommodations a reasonable one with a reputation for helpfulness to genealogy searchers is "Sancian" a guest house in Longford run by Mrs. Martha Kane. The address is Dublin Road, Longford. Her phone number is (043) 46296. There are a couple of other reasonable ones nearby, also very nice, as well as places to eat. To get their names, addresses and current rates check the Bord Failte website. You can see pictures of the establishments! http://www.ireland.travel.ie/home/index.asp If you arrange with your choice directly, you will probably have a little rate advantage. Rachel Smith

    3. Carol, In reply to your message of Feb 18, good places to stay in Ireland are the Bed & Breakfast homes. My husband and I went to Ireland for three weeks, rented a car, and stayed in the B&Bs. It was great because you get to know the people that way. Have fun and good luck on your research. Eileen

    2. Frank Thanks for the info, I have two of david's books on Longford and a letter saying he has not seen the CAMMELL name in connection with Longford. The trouble is most of the info we have today depends on enumerators understanding and interpretation. Once again thank you. 3. Good Pennsylvania Morning to Listers. Am planning a short weeklong trip to Longford County Ireland in June 2000. Can anyone suggest reasonably priced places to stay and eat. And can research be done beforehand by professional genealogists on James and Jane Claffey who came from Longford County Ireland in 1817. Others buried near them in Donegal Catholic Cemetery in western PA are Jane Cavanaugh, whose daughter Mary Cavanaugh married Locklin Egan. All came from Longford County. Any advice appreciated. 3. I havent posted anything yet, even though Ive been on the list for sometime now (I was hoping to get more info before I posted) but just to see if there is anyone out there who might be kin.... My GGrandparents: Patrick Smyth married to Mary McEnroe (their fathers: John Smyth and Michael McEnroe) Marriage cert dated 1873 says they were all resident at that time in Abbeylara, County Longford Possible cousins: a. John Drumgoole (of Athboy County Meath) married to Bridget Martin (of Creevy Townland); son John C Drumgoole (RC priest in NY, USA famous for starting an orphanage on Staten Island, NY and possibly still remembered in Longford...???) b. Reilly's (no specifics yet) resident in Kilbride Townland (Abbeylara Parish, C. Longford) in 1820's when Bridget Martin stayed with them before immigrating to the US after John's (senior) death.....they might also be the Reillys in Griffiths Val. in 1854 (Ive only seen an index) I dont know if any Smiths or McEnroe's are left (not hopeful about Drumgooles) but I know that some Reillys were still in Ireland in the 1950's/1960's when my grandmothers cousin used to visit them. I would love to find them (as well as anyone else connected)...my mother doesnt think it can be done. Here's hoping shes wrong. Barbara

Longford. The "oldest" was Andrew who appeared as someone's best man in the early 1830's in the church register. I couldn't find a marriage record for Andrew but according to baptismal records he had had a bunch of children of all the ususual names before, during and after the famine. I don't know how close Abbeylara is to Balymahon. Anyway, Andrew's son Michael is my g-g-g-grandfather. Michal married Rose Farrell of nearby Barry townland (her father was Patt. Farrell) Russ
