Beth, Eduardo A. Coghlan wrote a book "Los Irlandeses en La Argentina" which traces the Irish families in Argentina (most of whom came from the Longford/Westmeath area). The book was published in Buenos Aires in 1987 and I have used it at the Family History Library in SLC. I'm not sure that the book is still in print. Regards... Lorraine, Most of the Feeney's I have in my database emigrated to Argentina. James Moughty and his wife had 11 children and a couple of them married Feeney's. Patrick married Patricia, daughter of John Feeney and Louisa Moughty. Anne married James Feeney, son of Bernard Feeney and Mary Farrell in 1900 in South Dublin. In the will of James Moughty he mentions that one of his sons, Herbert (Hugh) was living in "New Zeeland" however, I have no other information. Hugh was born 31 Dec 1875 in Ballynacargy, Westmeath. Alberto, Thanks for the information. Your English is fine (a lot better than my Spanish!) I have been corresponding with a Moughty descendant in Buenos Aires and have also read the Coughlan book. With regard to your Cormacks, I don't have much additional information other than Thomas McCormack who married Mary Moughty was the son of Hugh McCormack. They were married in the parish church of Ballinicurra in 1907, and that Hugh had died before 1907. When I visited Ireland this past February, I visited with some of the McCormacks who live in Ballymahon, Longford and Moyvore, Westmeath. They don't know a lot about their ancestors. Regards... Thanks to Jan Dempsey who has begun to photocopy and transcribe Baptisms from Killoe's parish register we have now put the first letter online. This is a big project and Jan would appreciate any help with typing. She can send the pages to you and you can type them using text pad or word pad. I will get them on the Co Longford webpage. We are hoping we can make some resources available online to visitors to Co Longford GenWeb page. Checking something more for you in Coglhan I get : Margaret Feeney was born in Drumreaney Co. Westmeath in 1834 and died in Suipacha in 1907. She got marry to Thomas Clavin (1819-1899) Their children: Margaret 1854 Lawrence 1855 Patricio 1864 Maria 1867 Ana 1872 The first two children were born before they left Ireland. They had a big family their son Patricio had 13 children. Concerning the Catherine you mentioned I have any information about her. Alberto Savaglia Cormack.
I don't know if this is of your interest, but researching Seerys at Ballimore I found out a Preston married to a Seery. Their children were born around 1870. Ballimore is a place near the southern border to Co. Longford and some people of this place were buried at Forgney in Co. (South) Longford. Like Pretson is not a common name I think may be some connection. Best wishes Alberto Savaglia Cormack
I am researching the Preston family from theses areas of Co. Longford: Ballymahon,Forgney,Cartronboy,Barry,Abbeyshrule,Tashinny and Kilcommock. The family I am interested in is that of my Grandfather, John Richard Preston, born 1872 and I know that he lived in Ireland all his life. John had 2 sisters, Fanny and Eliza, both of whom emigrated to the USA. Will be interested to hear from anyone who may also be researching this family name from County Longford. Esther Pack
Donna, I noticed in your message to Alberto that you mentioned three Feeney names and I was wondering if you had come across a Catherine Feeney? Catherine married in 1854, Thomas Gash in Sydney, Australia and according to a birth certificate for one of their children she was born in Longford, Ireland. She would have been born about 1832. The Moughty family was intermarried to the Duggan, one of the more riches irish-argentines families here. Check Los irlandeses en Argentina by Coglhan, it gives a lot of information of both families.I think that some of the Moughtys returned to live to Ireland. It is very difficult to obtain outside of Argentine. May be in some Embassy of Argentine in Ireland or with people with connections to the irish argentine community. My Cormacks also came from Taghshinny ( Carrickedmond ) it is in Co. Longford in the border to Co.Westmeath. Part of my Moughty family emigrated to Argentina. James Moughty (from Westmeath, born in Longford) married Maria Duggan in 1870 in Dublin (she was the daughter of Hugh Duggan and Jane Kelly). James traveled back and forth to Argentina and a number of his children settled there. Patrick Moughty married Patricia Feeney; Michael Moughty married Anne Jacks; Anne Moughty married James Feeney; Louisa Moughty married John Feeney. I also have a Mary Moughty that remained in Westmeath and married Thomas McCormack. These Moughty's all lived close to the border of Longford near Ballymahon. Regards... Town not familiar, suggest you try www.seanruad.com. It is an atlas of Ireland, can put in townland or province, however your Omorstown does not come up in a search. Clonbroney is both a civil and Roman Catholic parish in Longford County.
