Her father was James probably 20 - 30 at her birth. 1855- 1865. Mother was either Elizabeth Cox or Sheridan. Help me solve this puzzle.
Re Austin and McKnight in Griffiths: David Leahy's index lists Abraham Austin at Cartronbrack, and two John Austins at Barry and Barry Village in Taghshinny Civil Parish. He found two Knight households, maybe same as McKnights. (I have noticed that families were variable about using an Mc, O or going plain.) James Knight was at Cornadowagh in Cashel Parish, Margaret at Carrowroe in Rathcline. These places are fairly close together. Rachel Smith
There ar a great number of McLoughlan,McLoughlin,McLLoughlin, also McGloughlan They are listed in County Longford Survivors of the Great Famine,at top of page it says"Index to Griffith's Valuation of Longford (1854) " by David Leahy You might check that Florence in FL
When you have time could you please check Griffiths for AUSTIN and McKNIGHT. Thank you, Jane G.
Hi David Leahy's book "County Longford, Survivors of the Great Famine" lists all the heads of families living in county Longford in 1854 at the time of Griffith's Valuation. There are no McLaughlin's spelled that exact way, but there is half a page of McLoughlin's and variants of that spelling. Also one & half pages of Kenny's. Please let me know if Kenny in the townland of Drumderg ring any bells. Both McLoughlin and Kenny were listed in David leahy's index to the Griffiths Valuations of County Longford, (called Survivors of the Great Famine) He found two pages of Kennys. What first names are you interested in? Rachel Smith
regarding this query, I am unable to find any McLaughlins in Longford in Griffiths Valuation. On the other hand there seems to be a great number of Kennys in that County. If specific names and Parishes could be supplied, I would be willing to see if I could find those that are required. ----- Original Message ----- From: <McCurit@aol.com> To: <IRL-LONGFORD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, June 24, 2000 10:34 AM Subject: [LONGFORD] Griffith's Valuation > If anyone has access to Griffith's Valuation I would like to know if > McLaughlin and Kenny are listed in County Longford. My Diamonds came from Ballybrien, Granard. My gt gt grandfather was a James Diamond who settled in Ontario, Canada and his daughter Elizabeth (Eliza) married Smyth Cooke (Leitrim T) and was my gt grandmother. I have written to Longford Roots just this week and hope to get more information. David Leahy has been very kind and helpful. You are my second contact this week and I am thrilled to finally get some results. Will be glad to share results from Heritage Center when they reply. An earlier James Diamond was on the flax growers. Would like to hear from you. Janis E. Ulstein (Jan) e-mail: ulsteinj@juno.com or: janisulstein@hotmail.com
If anyone has access to Griffith's Valuation I would like to know if McLaughlin and Kenny are listed in County Longford. Thanks

Sue This message was passed on on the Longford list so perhaps I can help in some small way. Go to the village of origin and just talk to the people. Don't be shy, because this is your only chance to find info so do anything that's needed. Go to the pub, chat in the store, talk to the people on the footpath. Someone will know of your family name and if there are any of them still around. Some oldtimer may even know where their property was and direct you to it. The Irish are amazing when it comes to remembering local families and places. Visit the cemetery and if there's a local library go there too. If not, find the nearest large town that will have a library. The ladies at the Longford Heritage Centre are very helpful. They went out of their way to help me when I was there recently, even to ringing an elderly man whom they knew had an interest in my DYMOND name. I paid 10 pounds on the spot and they looked there and then to see if there was any mention of my ancestors, and I was just following a long shot because my people lived on the Leitrim/Longford border. They also copied relevant pages from books on their shelves. Above all don't have to say to yourself when you come home, "I only wish I'd done that while I was over there." I made that mistake the first time I visited because of shyness and lack of confidence. But never again! Hope this is some help. Friends, We just returned yesterday noon from our trip to Longford County, Ireland. What a delightful place! Thanks so much to all who advised us of places to stay and see. After seeing how intimidating driving on left side of road could be, we opted for bus, train and sometimes taxi. We head quartered at the "Longford Arms Hotel" 4 days and took day trips out from there. Will be reporting more on the trip after we catch our breath but advise all who can arrange a trip to Ireland to do so. The people were soooo friendly and helpful. We will surely go back again. Maybe next time Glenn can find a leprechaun!! They told him that he had not had enough "Guinness" :-) Said it required about 15 pints, then you might see anything you wanted to. Will be posting photos, in next 2 weeks, of places visited on "Claffey Home Page" at URL http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~camounts/indexc.html More later. Carol Mounts
Go to www.goldenpages.ie/dthtml/index.html. You want Personal Finder, type in name and town example Drumlish and search, the address for your phone numbers are listed. If you have a problem let me know I will look them up for you.
I recd. this email but as I don't live in Ireland I am unable to help. Am forwarding in case anyone on the list does have a phone book.
