I am researching the following surnames from Ireland. My family somehow ended up in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. I am unsure if they came directly from Ireland or via some other US port. I do know they were already in New Orleans as early as the 1850's. > > >
I am researching the Moughty Family that originated in the Ballymahon area of Longford (and Moyvore, Westmeath, just over the border). Early baptisms were found in Newtoncashel and Shrule. Part of the family went to Argentina in the late 1800's. Additional names identified through marriage include: Glennon, Duggan, Flynn, Maloney, Feeney, McCormack, Halion and Ledwith). I also have an immigration record that showed that Patrick Moughty came to a cousin, Thomas Gorman at 365 West 52nd Street, New York in 1907. Regards... Donna

The first three are the primary family names. The others are families they married into-BRADY and REILLY being the most frequent. All seem to be from the NW part of Longford, between Leitrim and Cavan . Siochain leat, Siobhan
Posted on: County Longford, Ireland Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/Ireland/Longford/678 Surname: HIGGINS, CURRAN ------------------------- Patrick Higgins and Mary Curran were married in Co. Longford, in April 1858. I have Patrick's Civil War records that state this. They were Catholic. I have no verification, but believe I can place Patrick in Ballymahon in 1860. They came to US in about 1862. These interesting people are my great great grandparents.
I am researching my Cunningham ancestors. Luke (not sure if that is his real given name) was born about 1798. He immigrated to Nova Scotia before 1840. Luke married Mary ? in 1824. David Ahearne married Ellen Dunleavy. David left Ireland with his children after he was made a tax collector. He did not want to be a tax collector and left Ireland to avoid that job. I do not know what Happened to Ellen Dunleavy. My great grandmother was named Nora Agnes Ahearn was born about 1874 in Ireland. She had a sister Mary. James McDevitt, my grandfather is the hardest one to get information about because my McDevitt family all seemed to die young before I started this quest. James was born in Ireland and I think but not sure in the 1890s. fran104@s-way.com

He was born around 1855 in Longford, most likely Ardagh. He married Norah/Hannorah DONNELLY. Unfortunately, I don't know the names of Ellen GORMAN's parents or of any siblings. I don't know how common the GORMAN surname was in Longford, but I would appreciate hearing from anyone with any information to share. Pat

Looking for info on Hugh O'Beirne, born in Longford or Roscommon about 1765. Married Jane Finley who died in about 1830. He was a sargent major in the British Army but I don't know the dates. Hugh and at least 4 children, John, Thomas, Joseph, and Michael, emigrated to US about 1837. We cannot find any more info in Ireland on this Hugh. His sons changed the spelling to BURNS and BEIRNE once in the US. Anyone have any suggestions as to where we can look for info? How can we access marriage, baptism and death records? Any help, suggestions, would be greatly appreciated. Susan K. Spies

Posted on: County Longford, Ireland Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/Ireland/Longford/673 Surname: GORMAN, MULLIN, REILLY ------------------------- I have GORMANS in Drumlish, Clonbroney, Longford. Also Listrahee. I have a James who married Mary Mullin in Clonbroney in 1854. She came to NYC, likely after he died. James' parents appear to be Thomas GORMAN and Ann (?) 'Thomas' and 'James' are names that appear often in my GORMAN line. Also, possibly a 'Michael' - recently found in NYC. Female names that appear are: 'Ann', 'Mary', 'Bridget'. Can you give any approx. dates your GORMANS were around? And where they were at the time. Maybe we have a link! Agnes
