    1. [IRL-LONGFORD] Re: Hughes/Quigley 1830's
    2. My ancestor, James HUGHES, born in 1836 was RC. He claims his parents as: James HUGHES and Bridget/Brigid QUIGLEY. I haven't anything to go on to establish his birth as County Longford, but some guesses and a fit to a birth in 1836 of a James HUGHES to James and Bridget (no surname) HUGHES. James came to the U.S. about 1850 and settled in Lafayette County, Missouri, working the coal mines. I can't seem to connect him to any other Irish in the area that might be kin, so he might have come alone. Looking for anyone that might have a HUGHES/QUIGLEY connection in that time frame for this county.

    3. I have a Mary Mullin/Mullen who married my James Gorman in 1854 in Clonbroney parish, Longford. I wonder if these Mullins are related. I haven't been able to find out anything else about the Mullins, but I found Mary in the Church records database on the County Longford GenWeb page. Mary Mullin Gorman is buried in my Gorman family cemetery plot in NYC. Acc. to her death cert., she was 67 at death in 1902, so she was born around 1834-35. But I haven't been able to trace her back, so I know nothing about the Mullins. I take it you have no solid connections to Longford, or any particular place in Longford? You can go to this link to see what they had to say. http://www.ancestry.com/library/view/news/articles/2817.asp . CMC is just a web site. Jimmy Farrell, third from left, and seated in front of him, Tommy Spearman. Both are related to me I believe. My great grandfather, John Farrell married Margaret Spearman in Killashee on May 2, 1855. John's brother, Larry, married Margaret's sister, Bridget Spearman in Killashee. The Spearman girls mother and father were Thomas Spearman and Mary Cox. The Farrell boys parents were Patrick Farrell and Ann Donlon. I'm assuming Jimmy Farrell and Tommy Spearman are in their 60's today. I'd be thrilled if they or their family or someone close to them that knew them could answer this inquiry.

I visited Derrymore some time ago and spoke to Nicky Halligan who had lived their all his life and he mentioned that some of the Devlin's were Coopers. It is a major slow and painstaking task trying to sort out what branch of the family members belong to what tree I know they are all related. All really interesting stuff I wish I had started 20 years ago when there were more of my 'old folk's' around, however I will make that all important breakthrough one day. You know somewhere along the line the Devlin's were related to the American Prize Fighter John L Sullivan on his mother's (Catherien Kell(e)y). Also the informant on JOHN L's death certificate was Anne Lennon - any relation to you? Did I already ask you that question? Again Jimmy, thanks for contacting me and look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Mary Wall PS I have been unable to contact you from the email address given hope you receive this message.
