    1. Discovery Map sellers

    3. Last year I collected a list of a few sites that sell Discovery Maps. I checked the links and had to remove a couple but here are the rest. I was aiming for one from each county (with a lot of Irish researchers) but have to do another search to find a new site for England and Australia. I will be glad to update my list with other sites. 1. Battle of Poitiers 732 AD
    2. E Macklin
    3. Good morning everyone: With the movie "Arthur" finished I am wondering when Jerry Bruckheimer will do this Battle. The reason that I mention this battle is that apparently there was a large contingent [some 2000] of Dalriadans [Celts] and Milesians [Celtiberians], who sailed in the great Dalriadan fleet to Gaul up the Loire River to Tours to join the Duke of Armorica, the Duke de Saint Claire to join Charles Martel who was gathering his Christian forces to head off the Muslims led by Abderrahman, the Emir of Cordoba just coming up Spain across the Pyrenees and from a successful sacking of the great port of Bordeaux, each army with approximately with 50,000 men. Other than the fact that the Irish were fighting the Muslims, and they were again coming to the defense of Christendom. what really ticked the Irish off was the loss of their supply of wine from Bordeaux which was imported in great quantity into the great Irish trading ports of Cork, Waterford, Dublin and points north. The great clans of Ui Naill and Ui MacLochlainn were there along with the O'Donnells. Anyone else want to jump in on this piece of history ?? Eric Macklin

There are two Aghaboys and three Kilnacarrows in Co. Longford, but I think you want the ones all in a cluster with Soran - in Killoe civil parish. Soran is the largest of the three townlands - over 1000 acres, and extends from a point less than a half mile west of Ballinalee town/village, up to the NNW and NW about two miles from Ballinalee. Kilnacarrow has a tiny border with Soran, down near the point just west of Ballinalee and extends about a half mile to the west and SW (it's only 244 acres). But at its western end, it has at least a quarter mile boundary with Aghaboy (443 acres), which then extends about 2 miles to the NW. So, it is possible to walk from Aghaboy, through Kilnacarrow, to Soran. If you wanted to go from A. directly to S., you'd have to pass through the townlands of at least Esker South - and possibly Clontumpher....... a stroll of about a mile. 3. Hi Everyone, My paternal grandfather, Michael Gray, was born in Ballyduffy, Moyne. He was the son of Laurence Gray and Rose Dobson. He was born in 1871 and emigrated to the US in the early 1890's. He was one of several children and I can list the following: Matthew (believed to have emigrated to Australia or New Zealand), Laurence (married Margaret Monaghan and stayed to run the farm), Catherine (died in Idaho), Rose Ann (married John Murray of Aghaveans, Scrabby (now Loch Gowna), County Cavan and died in California), Patrick (believed to have settled in Wales), James (studied for the priesthood but left his studies, emigrated to the US and died tragically- possibly in a train accident- in Manhattan), John Joseph (settled in Oregon and Idaho) and Thomas (emigrated to Oregon and moved to California and believed to have died young). Wish I could help, but I work full-time and have an elderly mother-in-law to try to help look after. 3. Hello LIST I would welcome any advice on where to research the name BRENNAN from Co. Longford. My GGrandmother Mary BRENNAN emmigrated to the US at age 17 with her uncle Bernard Heffernan on the SS Carpathia. They arrived in Ellis Island on September 30, 1904. Both gave their last place of residence as Athlone. 0017. Hefferan, Bernd. M 26y S Carpathia Irish Last residence - Athlone Lab. 0018. Brennan, Mary 17y F S Carpathia Irish Last residence - Athlone Serv. Mary Brennan originated from Longford all all later references quote Longford and not Athlone as her place of birth. I also have a Mass Card for John P Brennan (Mary's brother) and his place of residence is given as Lislea, Kenagh, Co. Longford. I have so many questions......... Is the name BRENNAN common in Longford ? Is there any on-line census data available for Longford? Are there any on-line research sources for Lislea, Kenagh, Co. Longford? All ideas as to where I should look for information would be greatfully received. Fiona. New Jersey, USA. ======= http://www.fipacian.com/MinersofMourne.htm ====== The Miners of Mourne
