Charles, Maybe I gave the url incorrectly. The correct one is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~irllog/ IGP stands for Ireland Genealogy Projects. It is the online project the webpage is associated with. Hi Kathy, Yes he has this map in both of his books. The census index book too (County Longford and its People). I think you are suggesting that buying this book would also reap a townland map because of the recent discussion on how to get maps. That is a good point. Good thinking. Hi Beryl, We did make an announcement about this title when it came out. I also agreed to add a link to the Publisher on our Longford Links page. http://www.rootsweb.com/~irllog/county.htm I know at least one list member bought the book but don't recall who it was. I think a lot of us got that email this week. Christina On Tue, 27 Jul 2004 14:47:45 +1000, Beryl O'Gorman wrote: | I received the following info via email this week. Hi Christina, There is a great folded townland map tucked into a pocket in the back of the "County Longford Survivors of the Great Famine" by David Leahy. Kathy
The Irish Fest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is huge. There is music, dancing, shows, vendors of many sorts (didn't think about looking for a discovery map last year when I was there - there were many book vendors there though in the genealogy tent), food, travel . . . .all are things to do with Ireland!!! A guaranteed wonderful time!!! Some time ago Richard Callanan made me a graphic to help researchers figure out which Discovery map to order for County Tipperary. He has kindly made us a Longford graphic for this purpose. I have added a page to be an aid to ordering Discovery maps for County Longford. You can find it from the menu on the Longford IGP page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~irllog/ Choose RESEARCH AIDS. Then MAPS Then scroll down the page to Discovery Map Series. I will add any good online sources for buying the maps that our list members send me. Christina [email protected]
Hi All I received the following info via email this week. Has anyone heard of this book? Available as book, CD or download from Internet. I was very interested in purchasing, but the postage to Australia from the US is $39.95!!! And then $49.95 for the book. A bit too expensive for me. No connections. Just wondered why I hadn't heard about it around the traps. Beryl O'Gorman Greensborough Victoria Australia I am pleased to bring to your attention a new work entitled County Longford Residents Prior to the Famine: A Transcription and Complete Index of the Tithe Applotment Books of County Longford, Ireland (1823 - 1835) by Guy A. Rymsza, available exclusively from Dome Shadow Press <http://www.domeshadowpress.com>. Longford is the first county to enjoy such a thorough examination of the Tithe Books, which serve as an excellent census substitute for the nineteenth-century Irish census returns destroyed in the 1922 bombing of Dublin's Public Record Office. Irish ancestors who may have migrated within Ireland or emigrated to another country during the Famine (1845 - 1850) may now be rediscovered, along with their townlands of origin. County Longford Residents Prior to the Famine is the product of extensive, detailed research, and is much more than a casual transcription. It has received worldwide acclaim from Irish genealogists such as John Grenham of Dublin and Judith Eccles Wight of Utah. Brian Donovan, Publishing Director and co-founder of Eneclann Ltd. in Dublin, has commented that he is "extremely impressed with the work Rymsza has undertaken, as it will provide a quality resource for people using the Tithe Books." A thorough review by Francis Dowling of Otherdays.com appears at his world-class Irish Genealogical Research Web site.
Thanks for this info, I have just found abebooks.co.uk and ordered a copy of this book for £17.78 (english pounds) which includes the faster post service. Hello Again Beryl I've just noticed that AbeBooks now has an Australian/New Zealand web site: www.Abebooks.com.au/.co.nz Sorry I didn't spot this before. Ron Davies Surrey, BC Canada
Hello Beryl Reference subject book, there's a copy for sale on Abe Books at $29.95 US plus $9.00 shipping US to Australia. This should work out to about Australian $ 55 at current rates `total'. Expensive but better than you cite. Delivery is about a month. Add about $8 US dollars for delivery in 5-8 business days. Copy is used but reputedly in `good' condition and is hardcover. Seller is domiciled in Michigan. There's another copy also from the US but about $10 higher cost `sans shipping'. Go to http://dogbert.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?&tn=Residents+Prior+to+the+Famine&cm_re=A*Search+Box*Form&an=Guy+A.+Rymsza,&imageField.y=15&imageField.x=43&ph=2&sts=t or simply try http://www.abebooks.com/ and enter the words `Residents Prior to the Famine' and the author's name to achieve a successful lookup. I have no financial or personal interest in Abe Books - actually a central communication house connecting sellers and buyers but can say that I've had nothing but good results through Abebooks. Ron Davies Surrey, BC Canada Hope this helps. At 02:47 PM 7/27/04 +1000, you wrote: >Hi All >I received the following info via email this week. Has anyone heard of this >book? Hi Pete, You are wonderful, and the first person to actually know where Cahanagh is! I have looked on a dozen or so maps and never been able to find it, it must be very small. I have also left messages on lots of websites, including this one, and in over 10 years you are the only person to answer me with the details I was looking for, many many thanks.
