Hi Jim; Anghaile or "Annaly," which was formed out of the ancient territory of Teffia comprised the whole of the county of Longford and was the principality of O'Farrell. Hy-Maine comprised, a great part of south Connaught including Galway and the barony of Athlone in the south of Roscommon. Moylurg, Tir-Oilill, Tir-Tuathail, Arteach and Clan Cuain were in Roscommon. Moylurg comprised the plains of Boyle in Roscommon. Tir-Oilill, is now Tireill in Sligo. Arteach was a district near Lough Gara on the borders of Sligo and Mayo. Clan Cuain was a district in the barony of Carra near Castlebar. For other parts of Ireland some names are Thomond roughly Clare. Hy-Kinselagh roughly Waterford and Wexford. Brefne roughly Cavan and Leitrim. Tirconnel roughly Donegal. Tirowen roughly Tyrone and Derry. Just to name a few. Hi, Were your Doyles related to Kerrigan, Ryan, or Barry? Thank you, Ursula
I was interested in the names DOYLE and KELLY ... I too have DOYLE and KELLY among my ancestors. It is interesting to note that Thomas KELLY married a Margaret DOYLE - perhaps they were neighbors, living close by ... raises the speculation that possibly my Felix DOYLE and Ann KELLY were among these same DOYLES and KELLYS? My gr-gr-grandmother's brother, Felix DOYLE, was married to an Ann/Anna KELLY. They lived in Cambria County, PA, in the Johnstown area - Ebensburg, Cambria Borough, and Johnstown. They are buried in St. Columba Cemetery in Lower Yoder, PA. Felix was born in 1821, Co. Galway, and died 1908 in Johnstown. They had 8 children: Dora Anna DOYLE, b. 1867; (married John S. REILLY, b. Scotland; they lived in Youngstown, OH) Felix A. DOYLE, b. 1869; (lived in NJ) Mary DOYLE, b. ? Joseph DOYLE, b. ? Luke DOYLE, b. ? Daniel DOYLE, b. ? Barbara DOYLE, b. ? Bernard DOYLE, b. ? (died young) Ann KELLY died between 1870-1880; she had a sister named Martha KELLY, who lived with her nephew, Felix A. (the son), in NJ until she died. Felix (the father) remarried Margaret GANNING after Ann/Anna died, and they also had children. Three of them are: Katie DOYLE Margaret DOYLE William DOYLE We know nothing about Anna KELLY, where she came from, who her family was. We think she may have emigrated with Felix around 1850. Do any of these names click with anybody? Cheers! Phyllis 1. THOMAS1 KELLY was born Bet. 1800 - 1820 in Ireland, and died in Rahally Grange Ireland. Welcome to the County Longford Project. The purpose is to allow People with ties to Longford to test and be compared to others with ties to the same area. The fact they have ties to the same area would lead to good possibilities of matches and that means cousins and results. This is putting another tool in the hands of Longford Reseachers. The more tools the better I believe. To help connect all Longford people with their relatives thru the wonders of science. especially for those with no existing projects A new mailing list has been started at rootsweb.com.Its name is IRISH-DNA-L and IRISH-DNA-D. The goal of this list is to provide a place for light conversation on the results of Irish Surname Projects. Yesterday, I updated the Irish books section of my website by adding more books in the following categories: Parish History books, Local History books, Genealogy books and Irish History books. Also, I have added some Volunteer Lookups to books already listed thanks to the many who write me to offer the volunteer lookups. This is an interactive website where you can submit books that are not listed and on a monthly basis, I update the site with the new submissions. You can access this webpages by going to the URL below my name. On my homepage, at the top, under Ireland, click on Ireland Books. This will take you to the Ireland Books Discussion Mailing List website, at the bottom of the page, you will find links to the Parish History Books By Counties and to the Ireland Book List, these are two separate sections of the website. If you have any questions and/or comments about the site, please contact me off list. -- Pat Connors, Sacramento CA http://www.connorsgenealogy.com All outgoing mail virus free, scanned by Norton
Hello all My G-G-Grandmother was ANN NOLAN, who according to various census details was born in Longford circa 1832. I've just found Ann's marriage certificate in Aston, near Birmingham, England in 1854 and her father is listed as THOMAS NOLAN, a Carpenter. Neither Ann or Thomas have been located on the English census of Birmingham in 1851. Ann and EDWARD BURKE, her Husband to be, who was born in Dublin circa 1827 were apparently born in St Thomas's Church, Aston, which was a Catholic Church. As I know that 1. Ann was born in Longford circa 1832 2. There is a very good chance the family were Catholic 3. Ann's father was called Thomas and was (or at least had been) a Carpenter I wonder if there is any chance of a record of her birth being found, bearing in mind that I know this is approximately 30 years before civil registration began? Any information or advice about how to trace a record of Ann's birth would be extremely gratefully received, so I hope you will be able to help me. Regards Jon Burke

Kesa, the Irish Government sent the Australian Government all of the Irish Transportation Records, which were available, as a gift for the Bi-Centenary Celebrations, during 1988, and these may be found on the Irish National Archives Web Site, which is shown below, for your information and assistance. http://www.nationalarchives.ie/topics/transportation/transp1.htm or just http://www.nationalarchives.ie/search/a.htm + Links You should have a look for your Ann Reilly at this Site, as the Records are fairly comprehensive, and you may even find the trial details which provide more detailed information on both the reasons for such trial and perhaps some other details as to a probable location of her place of residence, or her family. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- OK, I may have found her, so, now visit your National Library and ask them for the Irish Convict Transportation Records and quote ### Document Reference No. TR 7, pg 221 and you may be as lucky as I was, in 1989, to find all about James Mahady. You may also wish to contact the National Archives through the Site, for details, should the National Library not be able to help. BTW, you will notice that it is Anne, whereas you had Ann, and this is something that should be remembered when searcing as my first attempt at Ann Reilly resulted in "No Person Found", until I put Ann*** , as I do with Mah***, for Mahady variations etc. Let me know how you go and drop me a line direct, re the result. Hi Agnes, All my records and saved emails were erased from the computer. Much ot my regret, every person who helped with my Kerrigan ,Geraghty and other surnames are no longer listed in my files.
