Looking for information on Blanchfield family. Thomas Blanchfield was b abt 1808 in county Longford and immigrated to USA about 1834. His wife, Anne Failey was born in Ireland abt 1815. Ray
I am in a very similar position, so I would appreciate similar advice. I have ANN NOLAN, who according to various English census records was born circa 1832/33 in Longford. Ann married my G-G-Grandfather, EDWARD BURKE, (b circa 1827 in Dublin) in 1854 just outside Birmingham, England. The marriage cert lists THOMAS NOLAN, a Carpenter as Ann's father. Hoping someone can help me. Best wishes everyone Jon Burke -----Original Message----- From: Kesa [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 26 November 2004 02:13 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [LONGFORD] LEARNING BIRTH DATE-PARENTS I am trying to locate the birthplace of my ancestor all I know it was longford in app1827, do you know how I could locate her townland please? The most recent 1901 census added to the IGP Longford website include the townlands of: Drumnee Elfeet (Adamson) Elfeet (Burke) Fortwilliam (All in Cashel Parish) Aghakeel Cullentragh (Both in Rathcline Parish) We are nearing the end of this roll. We should be finished in the next week or so. (Thanks to our great transcribers.) http://www.rootsweb.com/~irllog/ Click on Census on the menu. To those of you in the U.S. - Have a Happy Thanksgiving. Christina
Hello All First off, a Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends. Secondly, when the eating's over and the pace is slow, perhaps SKS on this list can advise me as to how best to learn: The birth dates and birth places of my Great Grandparents, Thomas Plant and Elizabeth Austin of County Longford. I believe Thomas to have been born there circa 1810 and Elizabeth circa 1819. I have reason to believe that Thomas' father was either a John or Robert Plant, his mother Margaret ______?_____. I believe Elizabeth's father probably was Abraham Austin and her mother Catherine _____?________. Thomas and Elizabeth were married 1 Nov 1837 in the Parish of Kilcommock [Keenagh], County Longford, Ireland [Church of Ireland]. The couple's first four children were born in County Longford, probably in the Townland of Barry, in 1841 through '54. Their last three children were born in Upper Canada [now Ontario] from 1857 through '61. I further believe, but have yet to prove, that Thomas' siblings included a John, William and Susan Plant. I am in touch with other Plant siblings currently living in Longford [near Barry] and in Ontario and England. They, too, believe that our GGrandparents were brothers....Thomas and John. Plants found in the 1901 census of Ballymahon town are, I believe, descended from William Plant, probably the third aforementioned brother. Any and all suggestions short of travelling to Ireland will be welcome. Unfortunately, my travelling days are history. Many thanks. Ron Davies Surrey, BC Canada
Hi, Looking for Doyles myself. Mine did come to PA. My ggrandfather James Doyle was Naturalized in Albany Ny, but ended up living in PA and passing away in the Almshouse, Erie PA. He was married to Anna or Annie Burns. Very poor people, No grave stones or records. His residence was Tipperrary and Killarney Ireland, but we could be way off, records and info are hard to come by. But you never know. Linda Dougan. I do have names of all his children and theres down to my mother and myself if you think theres a connection I can tell you what ever I have.
Hi, Lyons,Barry, Kerrigan or Ryan may be connected to Doyls.
Hi, Thank you for your response. Our Doyles lived in Philadelphia. Ursula
Hi Ursula :) As far as we know, there is no connection. But we don't have too much on our DOYLES (in Ireland) ... only the names of our gr-gr-gr-grandparents, Felix DOYLE and Honora McCUE/McHUGH, and that their children were born in Co. Galway, but we haven't found them in Galway yet. Family stories say they were from Roscommon area. All of their children emigrated to PA, except for one son who remained in Ireland (name unknown), and one daughter (Bridget DOYLE) who was a Sister of the Sacred Heart Convent in St. Joe MO. Maybe once we get the information about them in Ireland, your names will turn up ... so I will keep your names and your email handy, just in case. :) The connection of the DOYLES to Co. Longford is through one of their children's husband. My gr-gr-grandmother, Barbara DOYLE, married my gr-gr-grandfather James HAGARTY of Cooleeny Twp, Parish Templemichael, Co. Longford. Today our living cousins in Ireland spell their name HEGARTY. In the handwritten original baptismal records, it is spelled HAGARTY, and when James signed his Declaration of Intent and his Naturalization papers, he spelled it HAGARTY. It has been spelled so many ways ... HAGGERTY on Barbara's obituary, HAGGERTY on James' ship's passenger list, HAGERTY on census records, HAGARTY on some death certificates. Our living American cousin spells it HAGARTY, and because of that and because of the way James himself spelled it, we use the spelling HAGARTY. The point about spelling variations ... we know who we are talking about! We just always have to be sure to look for those variations in spelling when searching for documents. I sure do wish someone knew something about my DOYLES. Anything! Cheers! Phyllis > Were your Doyles related to Kerrigan, Ryan, or Barry? >Thank you, >Ursula > > > Hi,
I am researching Ann Reilly born app 1827 believe Longford according to her convict papers. Her parents were Mary and pareick Reilly and brothers James, John, Charles and Patrick. I am hoping to locate descendents still in Ireland do any of you have Ann in your tree? Regards Kesa Brisbane Australia
Hi Alice The Grange your Kelly family lived in is located in east Galway. It's been consolidated along with Bullaun and Killaan into one parish now called New Inn. I know this because I've been researching my Mahon family from that area, and visited that parish in 1997. My Patrick Mahon was born there in 1837, joined the RIC for a few years, moved to Paddington in London about 1866, married, and then moved the young family to Brooklyn NY in 1870. If you'd like, do write me off list and let's see if we can fill in a few blanks in our families' histories. It's rare that I come across someone researching in the New Inn area. I thought some of our listers might like to take a look at the post card of Main Street, Longford which was sent to me by Richard Callanan for use on the website. The card was posted in 1904. http://www.rootsweb.com/~irllog/ Regards, Christina
Project Background: Welcome to the County Longford Project. The purpose is to allow People with ties to Longford to test and be compared to others with ties to the same area. The fact they have ties to the same area would lead to good possibilities of matches and that means cousins and results. This is putting another tool in the hands of Longford Reseachers. The more tools the better I believe. Anghaile or "Annaly," which was formed out of the ancient territory of Teffia comprised the whole of the county of Longford and was the principality of O'Farrell. We will also be excepting female MTDNA Check out http://www.rootsweb.com/~irllog/index.htm Project Goals: To help connect all Longford people with their relatives thru the wonders of science.
