Susan, You need to take the film number in and ask for an order form. They give you a little card with pink carbon on top. You put the order number in the top box. If you have 6 digits instead of 7 you put a zero in front. I don't think that will happen with the census films. Then you pay about $3.50 for the film. They will order it for you. You can't order it online. If they, for some reason, do not know how this works (they are all volunteers) ask to speak to the center's director. That person should know about ordering films. That is their job. When the film comes in you should have it for about 4-6 weeks. You can renew it for slightly less than you paid to order the film. If you renew it twice it becomes a permanent loan and will stay in the center. When I am transcribing, I often just pay to make the film permanent so it won't go back. But that depends on whether you want to do just the one townland or a few. I will gladly send anyone a sample spreadsheet page to work with. When I started going to my local FHC I could see the people were volunteers and didn't know that much, so I determined to figure out how to work the system. Now the center I use is very professionally run, but they all vary. Good luck! Christina P.S. If you need the film number again I will look it up. Christina, I went to the Morman genealogy room and asked about the film for Ballymahon area (the other film) and I really didn't get any help there. Is there a way that I could order it by mail from Salt Lake City?? Please let me know as I will transcribe. Susan Mulledy
I am thinking about ordering the film for the City of Longford. If so I will try to get it transcribed. The FHL# for ordering the 1901 census of Clonbroney is: 846678 If you live near a Mormon Church you should be able to order the census. Without them we would not have made this step forward in getting Longford data online. My thanks to Sean Farrell, Niall Corr, Kathy Snowberger and Agnes McFarland (both of whom helped with our original Church Records project), Bill Morris and Christina Dowd. We also had a helping hand from two people who do not even have Longford ancestors but were happy to help - Gail Sexton and Erin James (from my Tipperary list and census project). I can't say enough about all of them. They are great! ######## :-) Thanks!!! Christina

Same here in the UK - once they get Halloween out of the way (which has gone totally American over here) all the xmas stuff comes out. Have to laugh, the local supermarket is selling xmas cakes and yule logs etc but the sell by date is for mid November! My wife insists the tree goes up two weeks before xmas and it'll stay that way to about Jan 2nd. I don't get into the xmas spirit until xmas eve when I rush out and get the wife a present. I spend the new year detoxing. hic Sean

I now live (20 years) in a Southern state. Down here they start Christmas the day after Thanksgiving. They pull their trees down Dec. 26th. I don't agree, but thought I would decorate a couple of my websites while I was working on the page. BTW, Christmas has been in the stores here since Halloween (Oct 3oth). There should be a law against that. Christina On Tue, 30 Nov 2004 01:37:15 +0000, Sean Farrell wrote: | very christmassy Christina, and its still November. Sean (Humbug) | Farrell
Don't worry Chris. You always beat me, but I'll have the snow/church page up in early December. Thanks for doing such a great job, and for helping researchers so much. Pat: The CD-ROM of County Longford Residents Prior to the Famine is an e-book edition of the printed book. Its "pages" look exactly the same as the 439-page hardbound volume with color dust jacket. It is viewed using Adobe Reader 6.0, which is resident on the CD. Aside from the CD's basic advantages of portability (vs. a large book) and price, you can use Adobe's search function to find citations of any surname or townland name within the work more efficiently than by thumbing through the hardcover edition. After searching on a word or phrase, Adobe generates a list of all occurrences of that term, hyperlinked to the pages on which it appears. Also, the CD can serve as a large print edition, since one can use Adobe's zoom function to enlarge each page over 400%. Other than that, you're getting the same information as with the printed edition. Please note that the CD-ROM is formatted for PC platform, due to digital rights management requirements. Computer system requirements can be found at the publisher's web site <www.domeshadowpress.com>, or email me offlist for more details. If you're looking for less expensive options, download editions are also available there.
