    1. Re: [LONGFORD] Cornakelly, Ballinamuck, Longford, Ireland. Surnames: COOKE, MCMANUS, GRAY, HEALY
    2. I can help a little with a few points on this one, if not much with the specific family names. Some of the place names in your request are not quite like they are known in Ireland today, which could complicate looking them up or finding them in old documents. For example, "Dormard" should be "Dromard." The principal town in this parish is Moyne, which you should be able to find on a good map of Ireland. It is close to the borders with both Cavan and Leitrim. A main highway (at least by Irish standards) connects Ballinamuck (to the south south west) with Moyne (to the north north east). Just off that route going toward Moyne is Tubber Patrick Cemetery. (Not Patrick Tubber) The marked burials in Tubber Patrick Cemetery are mostly from the 20th century, unfortunately for genealogical purposes, although there are a few that are older, including one of a general who was killed at the Battle of Ballinamuck in 1798. Most of the burials in Tubber Patrick Cemetery are from the nearby Legge Church. Ballinamuck is the only place that you mentioned that is not in Dromard parish. It is in Drumlish parish today, and I feel reasonably certain that it was at any time that might be of interest to you. I know it was at least as far back as in the 1880's, when my great-great-uncle was Parish Priest there and his curate (a Gray) was also a member of our family. On the family names, a point that I can make is that Gray in that area is often synonomous with Colreavy, strange as that may seem, so you need to be aware of both names. In fact one of my cousins says that if you live in the country, your name is Colreavy; if you live in town, your name is Gray. Also I am related to a Gray family in Moyne, so if you turn up anything in that direction, let me know, and perhaps we can find a link. Good luck with your research. 2. LYnne Re your recent post about the Dowds. I am related to both the Cox family of Shantum and Castlepollard in Westmeath. (Different families and not related) I am also related to the Kennedy family, of Mt. Kennedy, near Granard. The separating characteristic was that they were all members of the Church of Ireland. If that is any help I can send more information. Let me know. No knowledge of any Dowds, however Charles Geoffroy Oregon

They wanted them changed to the name of an occupation or a color (e.g. Gray). (Our family from Longford is named "Creamer" I suppose they have milk cows to this day.) David Myers

    3. Lynne, I know this is an old message, but just got around to emailing you. I have Dowd family connections, but don't know where they came from. I'd be interested in seeing or hearing more about the records you have. My GGF was Patrick Dowd (b. 1866 emigrated to US 1886) who had brothers John (b. abt 1857, emigrated to US 1883) and Martin (b abt 1865, emigrated to US 1885?). Their parents were Thomas Dowd and Elizabeth Ansbro. Thanks for any help with records. It also solves the biggest problem no maiden names John Farrell marries Mary egad which mary. well i am doing marys and say creamers eventually mary creamer shows up and then i might get the wedding but usually some clue dictates mary as being the wife of JohnFarrell. and i wind with all the Farrells and Creamers. This judge is part of my clans 300+ family cluster its enormus its that probem that made me start the genetics it can line females to each other . say i have these dennings and cassidies malones devers heslins brownes cogans and the different bubbles have pink and blue lines connecting you can foollow the pink female decendents of the first mom should match. that clues me into which names i should look for and when to find Mary. and it can provided marys last name too hope you see why i do that style beside s i can never figure out the John[2]5[7] son of James [9]3 stuff Jim Denning -Ygenealogist-MTgenealogist using dna to connect Chelsea,Ma.-Woburn,Ma.-denning-dennen-danin-dinan-dinihey-denningston-dinning- carlon-carroll-dever-cogan-malone-heslin-piscopo-mazzola-martini-farrell-mchug h-farley-grimes-lynch-doherty-SanDanto,Ita-Adargh,longford-Revere,Ma-Wintrop,M a.- and ever an growing list
