    3. You are right, Pete! As you see, I am no further forward but yours is still a precious clue. Yesterday I did a long session at the computer on Ollard in general. Precious few seem to have drawn attention to themselves and somehow the computer seems to put names like P Ollard and C Ollard when the name is actually Pollard or Collard, which does not help much. Just in case there is anyone out there also looking, I found a fleeting mention of a ROBERT PEPYS OLLARD but was unable to pin it down. On May 7, 1857 a Mr. Frederick W. Ollard, a passenger to Newfoundland, died after three days of intense seasickness - that was reported in the Irish American newspaper. I had seen this before, and did a bit of research in Newfoundland just in case, but nothing came of it. Somebody in Brandon, Manitoba came from Tyrone Co., Ireland in 1846 with his father and brothers, and on February 7, 1893 he married MARY ADELAIDE C OLLARD - or was this also Collard? - but I didn't find his name. A HENRY J. OLLARD was a Staff Paymaster, ship Garnet, and I found him on a list of Royal Navy Ships in Service 1894 which was transcribed in New Zealand. I suspect that he would be an Essex Ollard, and therefore not one of our line, but one never knows until one finds out for sure... Then - I found a reference to OLLARD WESTCOMBE and they are a firm in Cork right now, according to the Home Page. Well, well, well! We'll certainly try to go into that. Have to work out the difference in shop-opening time between South Africa and Ireland. Ours open at 8.30 am usually. Gets lighter much earlier. There is an ELIZABETH OLLARD, or was, working in the Department of Education in Northern Ireland and I've sent an e-mail to the Department... S L OLLARD wrote a paper on the Oxford Movement in 1939 but so far I haven't found him anywhere else. Lollard is a name, also! Of course, many of these are uncontactable anyway, but there seems to be a glimmer of hope. Watch this space. Thank you for all the help, Listers. I've heard from some of you off list, and it has been very encouraging. Go well! 3. Hi Michael, Andy and All, Which is why I'm on this List, because my gg grandmother, Mattie (Martha) Dimond, of Gortermone Townland in the parish of Carrigallen married Martin Cassidy circa 1830s, and I've been unable to find Martin anywhere. There also seem to be a few Dimond families in that Drumlish area. Gortermone is almost on the border. 3. Hi -- I am making a new call for volunteers to transcribe census images. I don't like to presume on our helpers, so if you want to help out, please let me know even if you were already a transcriber. Please email me OFF LIST by using my email addy: [email protected] Hitting reply will go to the list. The new film I am waiting for is #0846687 Longford Urban No. Townlands: Deanscurragh, Glack (urban part), Townparks (urban part). Longford City: Armstrong's Yard. Longford City: Ballymahon Street Blue Yard Bog Lane Burke's Yard Canal Harbour Chapel Lane Dublin Street Dwyre's Yard Earl Street Great Water Street Harbour Row Killashee Street King's Yard Little Water Street Mail Coach Yard Main Street Market Square McDonnell's Yard Needham's Yard New Street Richmond Street Sandy Row Stafford's Yard St. Joseph's Road St. Mel's Road St. Michael's Road Ward's Terrace If you want to work on a particular Street let me know. You will get the images of the place you transcribe. If you have not transcribed before here's how it works: I copy the images, you transcribe from the images into a spreadsheet program like Excel or the Works version. You email me the finished spreadsheet and I put it online. I will help with a 2nd opinion on any questionable name. *** I like to get the finished project back in a week. More than that and I have found it bogs things down. But the process of entering data is really pretty fast on a spreadsheet. We use abbreviations to speed this up.*** The film should be here in a couple of weeks. Right now we are finishing up a handful of places that were missed when we did the current roll of film. 1. Re: List of Drumlish people
    2. Hi , A list of people from Drumlish would seem like a good idea, but it would not be as straight forward as it first looks. The number of people living in the town of Drumlish in around 1840 might only be in the hundreds but most people lived in the surrounding countryside in townlands and they would consider themselves as coming from Drumlish, my own family comes from O'hill which is about 2 miles from Drumlish but at Ellis Island they are recorded as coming from Drumlish. The people in the surrounding townlands would add several thousands to the population of the town. Michael Woodwards Leighton Buzzard

    3. Sioborn you may be able to help a lost Aussie??? My ancestors originated from ireland, all I have is gggrandmothers convict information which says only that she was born in Longford Ireland, as her name is one of the most common, Reilly, and I have no other information on her except her parents and siblings I need to know how to track back in Ireland without physically going there to find Ann's relliies and any descendants still in Ireland. I am not familiar with the Layout of Ireland though I do have a map of Ireland which shows where LOngford is but that is all, if you could steer me to the best way to start my research in I would be most grateful, I know that I need to somehow find her Townland but with her name it is so hard. Are there cencus or rolls or some sort that could help me nail it down and what should I look for? Regards Kesa Australia

    2. Hi Andy, You were looking for Kiltycreevagh, this is a small townland just over the border in Leitrim, its 110 acres, in the Barony of Carrigallen and the civil parish of Oughteragh. Two of my Drumlish greatgrandfather's (Clarke and O'Neill) married girls from this townland so it was not uncommon in this area of North Longford near the border. Michael Woodwards Leighton Buzzard

    1. Re: tracing REILLY ancestors

    3. In answer to your question, Kesa, I would suggest that the best place to begin is Griffith's Primary Valuation (GPV) of County Longford (1854). Even if your ancestor left Ireland before that date, she very well may have had family members would remained behind - you do not say how old she was when she left. Since this surname (and its variants) are so common in Longford, I would further suggest that you buy a book by David Leahy called COUNTY LONGFORD SURVIVORS of the GREAT FAMINE, which is a comprehensive index to GPV. Keep in mind this only gives heads of households and not all who live in that family group. I have the book and it has been a big help to me in my family research; incidentally the name REILLY and its variants take up 2 full pages and the better part of a third, so you can see why I recommend getting the book. You can order it directly from David Leahy at [email protected] OR from Kenny's Bookstore in Galway City at: [email protected] This way you can pick through the information at your own pace.
