    3. Helen, I only have a list of Parish records available through the LDS church on the website. There are records for Granard listed. How easy they might be to read, I can't say. http://www.rootsweb.com/~irllog/parishes.htm Whether the parents are listed is also something I can't answer. Maybe someone else has more information on Granard. The Longford Research Centre is another option. http://www.irish-roots.net/Longford.htm Christina On Sun, 13 Feb 2005 21:34:21 -0500, helen ware wrote: | Is there a list of Catholic churches available? 3. James, the following details were recorded during my Irish Research, in and around Longford Town, and were copied down due to my having noted every form of spelling which could relate to my Mahadys, and included the Mallady name in this instance, plus any Caherly names which I found during this time, due to my own Gt.Grandmother being Ann Caherly. My own Mahadys were from Clonbroney and I found all of their Marriage and Birth details at the Ballinalee RC Church which is located abt2 miles from both Clonbroney and Killoe. Should you happen to find some form of connection, please let me know as I update my Records when such takes place. 3. List contributors, I have been getting so many lookup requests for Leahy's Griffiths index Survivors of the Great famine, that I must return to my basic policy. I think we should help a newbie who doesn't know where to begin, but, for anyone who has a lot of Irish ancestors, I wish you would please support David Leahy's tremendous contributions to Longford genealogy by ordering your own copy. It's quite inexpensive. He cannot have made anything like what his great effort is worth and we all owe him our thanks. For information or to order a copy this URL works: www.flyleaf.ie/longfam.htm Besides the Survivors he has done an index to the 1901 Census and has ready to print an index to the 1820's Tithe Applots. For any other information I happen to have I will always try to help when I have time. 3. Judy, There are four and a half pages of Farrells! Scanning it, dozens of Michaels. I don't think this source is of use unless it's a rarer name, because there's no clear way to sort them out. I'm sorry to give a disappointing answer. Rachel

    1. RE: IRL-LONGFORD-D DIGEST V05 #43 Kerrigan Repeat Kerrigans
    2. Rachel & Robert H Smith
    3. Ursula, In his index of the Griffiths Valuations "County Longford Survivors of the Great Famine," David Leahy lists the following Kerrigans: William at Main Street, Ballymahon Town (Shrule Parish.). Thomas at Cloonard (Taghshinny Ph). Patrick at Clygeen (Kilglass Ph.). Rose at Kilcurry (Taghshinny Ph.). Anne at Cornapark (Ardagh Ph). Bartly at Clonwhelan(Mostrim Ph.). Thomas, Margaret at Kilsallagh (Mostrim Ph.). Patrick at Balalley Lane, Granard Town. Patrick at Moxham Street, Granard Town. Honor at Leitrim (Granard Ph.) The map included in this book shows these townlands mostly to be quite close together in the southeast part of County Longford, with the Granard addresses more central. The repeated names may be the same individual having land in more than one townland. Rachel

    1. Re: [LONGFORD] C of I Church at Clonbroney parish
    2. Robert Kirk
    3. Bill... There was indeed a C of I parish church in Clonbroney about that time. My late stepmother looked up various births, marriages, & deaths back in the '70s which I ahve inherited. (She covered Kirk, Noble, Gilliard, Miller, Montgomery, Howden, Trimble, & more.) She & my father visited relatives there but I believe she got most of her data by visiting the Nat'l Archives in Dublin and not locally. They now have a web site at: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ . I've been told that the C of I also maintains an archive at the "RCB" library in Dublin. Their web site is: http://www.ireland.anglican.org/library/index.html . I remember as a youngster being taken to a C of I in Balinalee which was probably the Clonbroney parish church. It's probably long gone now, but the records are still available as above. 3. HUGHES is a subsidiary line for me. I have a John HUGHES born in 1820s in Ireland who married Jane Donnelly in Illinois in 1848. Jane and John HUGHES first child was named James HUGHES born in 1855 in Illinois. Jane Donnelly was first married to Patrick McElroy in the 1830s and their first child was born in Providence, R.I. Patrick McElroy died in the late 1830s in Illinois. In an obituary, it states that Jane was from County Tyrone. Do you have any information on the McElroys or Donnellys? Many thanks. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, February 12, 2005 8:51 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [LONGFORD] James Hughes of Killoe Phyllis and Rachel, If you find anything on a James HUGHES please let me know. 2. Hi Rachel, Do you have the list of David Leary's Kerrigans who escaped the famine ? My G-Grandfather, Thomas F. Kerrigan was born in Granard 1848. He moved to New York in 1863. I believe he may have had parents and siblings living in Ireland, as he returned several times in the 1870's to visit relatives. Thank you. Ursula

    1. CASEY - DUGGAN
    2. Christina Hunt
    3. Does anyone know the CASEY connection here. In 1911 John DUGGAN is married to Winifred. They have been married 10 years so around 1900-01. They have a "niece" named Mary H. CASEY living with them. They were in Longford Town on Little Water Street. I believe Winifred is probably a CASEY. She would have been born about 1872. In our online 1901 census there is a Winifred Casey living on Little Water Street. She is not with family so I don't know who her parents were. What I need to learn is who Winifred's parents were. Anyone know? Thanks. Christina

    1. Leahy look ups
    2. Sean Farrell
    3. To anyone who has not seen the layout of David Leahy's book it can be quite a task to find a particular person, especially with only a surname. If you have the first name and the townland then you already have nearly all the information that Leahy supplies. There are instances when two people have the same name in the same townland and Leahy includes the father's name in perenthesis to distinguis them, there are also instances of John snr and John jnr etc. To save Ruth from being inundated I can do look ups as well but you will get more information from Christina on the the Longford site http://www.rootsweb.com/~irllog/valuations.htm Sean
