    3. I have just been given copy of; "The Story of the Irish Race" by Seumas MacMANUS. It is a history of Ireland w/many Irish scholars contributing to the info. I already have a copy of this book - do not need two. I will give this one to whoever might care to have it. It is a well worn copy but is all OK. First response, it's yours. Contact me off-list. 3. Hi Kathy The Clonbroney parish registers (Church of Ireland) are in local custody in the town of Ballinalee, county Longford. . I had the opportunity to look at the originals when I was in Ireland two years ago. I believe that the county Longford Research Centre in Longford town has a transcript of these records. They charge a fee for look-ups. Sheila Forbes Canada

    2. If this is Catholic record, the baptismal record will almost certainly by Catarina in Latin, regardless of whether the person was to be called Kate, Kathleen, or Catherine, so you would only need to indicate one possibility. If you are asking for a civil record, I would say that the first name could be any of the three. 3. Eliz in N.Y. My grandmother's given name was Malvina Jane, nickname Jennie. Her marriage cert. is written Jennie M. Burlingame. My g-grandmother's name was Elizabeth (to the best of my knowledge), born in Ireland (county unknown), married in New York using the name Lizzie on her marriage cert. Seems our ancestors chose to use their nicknames so maybe you could ask for "Katie, Catherine, or Kathleen." The maiden name of their mother is down as Katie Kelly. My question is: Is her name Katie or Catherine. Since I will be sending for birth certificates in Ireland and they ask for her name, is Katie a nickname or would that be her forename? 3. Mullingar is in Westmeath county. It shares it's western boarder with Longford county Mullingar is about 25 miles east south east from the town of Longford on the Dublin road Abbyshrule lies between the two cities and would have been an important town in the time of the royal canal which connected all three see site http://www.waterwaysireland.org/map/royalcanal.swf -------Original Message------- From: Grammagras@aol.com Date: 06/23/07 11:59:39 To: Irl-Longford@rootsweb.com Subject: [IRL-LONGFORD] Information needed To the listers: Can any tell me how close Mullingar is to the Longford boundary line? Is Abbeyshurle close to this area? Also if I send for a birth certificate how safe is my credit card information? I tried to send for it while I was in Ireland when I was there. I had to buy a postal money order. Now I have been able to print the form to send for it I am nervous about sending my credit card information. I have never done this before. Is it secure? When they could not find anything they sent me back an Irish money order. I sent for two and lost money because the rate of exchange was different then when I purchased it. And was unable to cash the money order until someone I knew was going over. Thanks for any help. 3. I don't know for certain who you are ordering have ordered 3 or 4 certs from the GRO and I had no problems with the credit card. It is about the only way to save on charges for foreign currency. I wish they would all take them online but they don't. I also did a couple using one of the Heritage Centers in Ireland. I sent my card info in 2 or 3 emails. I have used my card with a County in England too. All went well there too. http://www.groireland.ie/ I will say that the GRO is slow but they will search a couple of years either way if you request a search. They eventually come through. They can look across county lines. Ask for a photocopy NOT a certified copy. It is cheaper. Good luck, Christina > To the listers: > Can any tell me how close Mullingar is to the Longford boundary > line?
