Can I suggest not to get too stressed out about the spelling of your Kearney/Carney name. My maiden name was Shaughnessy and my grandfather was the only member of his family to keep that spelling - his brothers chose Shanasy! We have found over 200 spelling variations to our name, some would be obviously spelling mistakes or transciption errors but remember not everyone was literate. I'm not getting stressed out at all. The problem I have is which spelling to search for. I'm actually even getting the feeling that both are wrong as I can't seem to find anything on either of them. I got all excited when I found the names of James Carney/Kearney's parents but when I checked on Ancestry they don't appear at all.
