Although this man isn't related I'm involved in Western Australia in a project named "Ships Project" we're conducting further research on about 1200 men who came to Western Australia between 1850-1880 in a force names "Enrolled Pensioner Guards". These men all retired/discharged British Army/Marine men came as escorts on the Convict ships and two later ships to top up the numbers. These men came on the condition that they were on call in times of emergency and call out if any disturbances occurred. One of these men was a James CHILDERHOUSE. Information we have is extremely limited although we believe he was a Sgt. Major he arrived in Western Australia onboard "Palmerston" in 1861. A daughter Anna married in Western Australia in 1870. Very little other information has at this point been found although I do suspect they may have left W.A and you might discover this if you trace his movements on the Chelsea Pension Records. Have had contact with a descendent on the east coast of Australia who states he was a Royal Marine. However, cannot find him at the National Archives Kew nor does he appear as a British Army soldier online with the discharge papers.
