My understanding is that with a mixed marriage in Australia i.e. Catholic and Protestant they were married behind -not in front of -the altar. In an instance in my family the protestant female converted to Catholicism but they were married in the presbytery (home of the priest) rather than in the actual church in 1870 in Melbourne. Barbara.
