    1. [IRL-LIMERICK] General Question on Irish Wills
    2. Can anyone tell me if it is at all normal for someone's will in Ireland to take 19 years to be proven? I have a will of an individual who died in 1811 that was not "proven" until 1830. It seems an awful long time to me...but I have no idea what is "normal" for this time period in Ireland. Can anyone shed any light at all? Thanks in advance for any help. Kathy

    3. Could it be that the spouse did not die until 1830? I can't speak for Ireland, but I've seen that happen a lot in upstate NY. 3. Kathy My experience is that will were generally proved quite quickly after the death. There is, however, a list of wills in the National Archives that were never proved. So it is possible. What happened more often was the will would be proved quickly and there would be a grant of administration some time (years) later because executors had died before completing the administration of the will. For example; Michael ADAMS, of Ballycullane whose will dated 3 July 1801 and proved 27 May 1802 had a grant of administration dated 1833. -- Regards Nick /Home/ http://members.iinet.net.au/~nickred/ <http://members.iinet.net.au/%7Enickred/> /Sites managed/ http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~registryofdeeds/index.html <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Eregistryofdeeds/index.html> http://www.igrsoc.org/index.htm http://members.iinet.net.au/~nickred/majuratennis/ <http://members.iinet.net.au/%7Enickred/majuratennis/>
