Hi John Thank you for your reply.May I ask how you know CARRIG is definitely a Clare name ? Ive been looking for them for a while now and cant find them, but I will concentrate on Clare now,. Have you happened to come across the name before? Unfortunately I dont know who Im looking for LOL. Im trying to find James CARRIG who married Ellen LANGAN in Canada.Ellen may have been from Askeaton, she was my great grandfather Maurice LANGAN'S sister. Thank you again, Cris Atwater California
The handiest way to locate names is probably to use the goldenpages website. I did a search for Carrig in Clare and the following link shows what was returned: http://www.eircomphonebook.ie/search/clare/carrig.html One of the definitive authorities on Irish names if MacLysaght and he published a number of books on the subject. One which is very useful and in print if "The Surnames of Ireland" by Edward MacLysaght. He states, and I quote: *(Mac) Carrig, Carrigy* *Mac Concharraigh* (*con,* hound — *carraig,* rock). Carrig and Carrick may also be *de Carraig,* referring to some notable rock, or, in the case of the Anglo-Norman family, to Carrick in Ayrshire, Scotland. Carrig is confined to Cos. Clare and Limerick, but MacCarrick is mainly found in Ulster and in Co. Roscommon. (end quote) Does that help or does it confuse? Im trying to find James CARRIG who married Ellen LANGAN in > Hi Cris, I think I have found them both together, that is Maurice Langan and Denus and Jerimiah Cregan. County Limerick. PLU of Glin Barony of Shanid Civil Parish of Kilmoylan Townland of Glenbaun Maurice Langan was the occupier whilst Denis and Jerimiah Cregan's were the Lessor's. The rent payable for the house and office was 12 shillings. Next door Denis and Jerimiah occupied a house, office and yard and were also the lessor of that property. Hope this helps.
