I am of Irish descent and I married a non-catholic in 1965 in New Zealand. But, not all the ceremony was performed in the Church and I had to go behind into a little room to perform the last half of the ceremony and then after being married went back into the front of theChurch to sign the Registrar in front of the Congregration before being sent on our way. I was 25 and my husband was 29. I gathered from my mother that it was a normal occurrence. I have instances when my ancestors certainly fudged their age by at least two years.
