Dear Kerry, Thank you so much for these details. Interesting the Canty/Hynes passengers on the Portland! I think I would also be interested in the Cork Canty names, especially if you know of any further details of a convict JOHN CANTY age 20 : trial in Limerick 12 March 1838 imprisoned Kilmainham Gaol 23 Mar 1838 and sailed on Westmoreland 18 April 1838. This would have his birth as c1819 which would be in line with my records. I have not been able to connect these events with my ancestor but this convict was granted a cert of freedom 28 April 1845. The other option would be a bounty immigrant John Canty age 28 arr on Martin Luther 1842 from Limerick . This would mean he was born c 1814 but ship age records are sometimes incorrect. On his death cert my John Canty he has been in NSW 30 years he is 52 and it is 1871. Thanks for your interest. ...Helen. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kerry" <kerryb@austarnet.com.au> To: <irl-limerick@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, February 18, 2008 3:41 PM Subject: Re: [IRL-LIMERICK] HYNES/CANTY > Hi Helen > > Guess what I found Timothy yesterday and he may have arrived with his > brother Thomas, just have to find him again.
