G'day Karen I had a similar question in the past regarding Ballynash (Clare) and Ballynash (Bishop). I was advised that the second name represented the owner (or should I say Landlord as some of his tenants were the descendants of the original owners) Regards Kevin Sheahan -----Original Message----- From: irl-limerick-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:irl-limerick-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Karen McGann Sent: Tuesday, 26 February 2008 6:52 AM To: irl-limerick@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IRL-LIMERICK] 1901 and 1911 City of Limerick Census Records Thanks for the immediate reply but I have another question ! Because 'Collins' follows 'Dromtrasna', does that mean they were the predominate family in the area? Why did they get the honor of having their name attached to the townland ? There were other surnames in Dromtrasna. thanks again-Karen ----- Original Message ----- From: "george kelly" <geokel@eircom.net> To: <irl-limerick@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, February 25, 2008 11:35 AM Subject: Re: [IRL-LIMERICK] 1901 and 1911 City of Limerick Census Records > Dromtrasna (Collins) is the name of the townland to distinguish it from > Dromtrasna North and South.RC refers to Catholic parish which doesn't > always > coincide with the civil parish. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Karen McGann" <imhear@comcast.net> > To: <irl-limerick@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Monday, February 25, 2008 7:20 PM > Subject: [IRL-LIMERICK] 1901 and 1911 City of Limerick Census Records > > >>I took a peek at Kathy's link (below) and on the 1911 census of Limerick >> county I found some names of interest but can someone help me decipher >> the >> listing?
