    1. Re: [IRL-LIMERICK] Limerick tradesmen in 1840
    2. Chris, Sorry but there is no further detail on the Charles Hutchinson who is included in the Coachmakers' Guild list. Before some of the guild lists, the members wrote addresses that sometimes give a few details as to the state of their particular trade (for instance for the Smith's Guild, their secretary Mr. Thomas Ahern gives quite a few details regarding foundry names; who owned them, how many people they employed, products they made, year Mr. Ahern was apprenticed, etc.) but not every guild included remarks w/ their list. The only additional text with the Coachmaker's guild was as follows: "Messrs. James M'Grath, chairman, and Richard Ryan, secretary fo the coachmakers' guild, Limerick, in forwarding their list remark that the ruin of the trade by the Union is so self-evident as not to need detail; but that the evils they complain of are and will be daily on the increase, unless a repeal of that obnoxious measure is attained. " There is another HUTCHISON in these guild lists, one named Hutchinson, Michael, from the Carpenters Guild, however, again the remarks preceeding the Carpenter's list was also (mercifully!) brief and only says, "The following is the Guild of Carpenters of Limerick, presented by Messrs. Patrick Crowe and Patrick Cusack: --" You may wish to take a look at the Limerick City Council's website at http://www.limerickcity.ie/CityLibrary/LocalStudies/ particularily at the Trade Directorys that are published there - looking for either your surname or going in and looking by TRADE for either coachmakers or carpenters to see if you can get any further details on these two Hutchinsons. Kathy Rhodes --------- Original message from "Chris Jones" <chris@stow-jones.co.uk>: --------- Kathy, I am particularly interested in the name 'Charles Hutchinson' in the list, as he could be related to my family. I have not got back as far as 1840 yet, and I believe that most of my Hutchinson's were actually based in Clare. Do you have any further detail on this person, or is there a source available on the web? Thanks Chris Jones -----Original Message----- Members of the Limerick Guild of Coachmakers: as published in the Freeman's Journal on October 21, 1840 <snip>
