Virginia, I'm not absolutely positive but believe that the answer to your question is YES, these lists basically represent tradesmen engaged in business in the city of Limerick. All I can tell you for certain is that the list of tradesmen was written on Oct. 7th, 1840 at Trades' Hall, Arthur's-quay (and THAT address is, I'm quite sure in the CITY of Limerick). Whether or not this means that all these individual Guild members all lived in the city proper I am not at all sure. I would think it would be possible for a painter or a carpenter or a plasterer, for example to live OUTside the city limits but possibly belong to a GUILD in the City of Limerick, but I need to, as popeye would say "edumacate" myself more with regard to the GUILD system in Ireland. For instance, did each small townland have a Guild or were the Guilds only located in larger towns/cities? If anyone knows anything about the Guild System or can point me to some links about it I'd appreciate it!
